Is this a new professional category I am not aware of? Is it a euphemism I'd rather not know about?

Casual Sep 17, 2003

Hi Susana!

They mean 'so now and again'; i.e. not on a fixed basis so as the need arises!

I am the queen of casual dressing so I must be in the running!

I don't know, that uniform looks spiffy enough

Thanks for enlightening me, I guess this is what we call "occasional" in my neck of the woods. I was afraid this was yet another euphemism for "someone who does not expect to be paid much"! My apologies to the poster of the job

Cheers,

S.G.

Cool translators wanted Sep 17, 2003

I'm afraid there's too much rate talk going on these days (years?), and we distrust even the smallest of words in a job posting!! Well, no blame on you, Susana, really.

I actually hadn't noticed the "casual" thing, and I love it.... One of the best things of being a freelancer: no dress code, casual for good!!

Best,
Rb

Translators' Uniform? Sep 18, 2003

In a Powwow discussion, it was proposed that in order to recognize each other we wore "translator's uniform" -- bathrobe in winter (and I suppose unironed T-shirt in summer?)

I'm just curious as to what a "translator's uniform" would entail...

How about a vest full of pockets, like the one photographer's use, so we can keep all our supplies handy...of course that would entail getting out of my PJs...can't pay me enough for that

Signed: The Princess of Casual (the Queen's post was already taken)

In memoriam
chuckles Sep 18, 2003

Dear Susana et al.
Now that you've given me my chuckles for the evening, I need to add that "casual" was a recognized job category at the Univ. of California, where I worked for years. One was either a "career" employee or a "casual" employee. So, don't count on getting to work in your underwear if you land this job

With apologies to the job poster: the sample was pretty funny, too! "Current" light bulbs? Ve

Thanks for brightening my dark night as I labor away here!

Untidy desk?? Sep 18, 2003

Bathrobe in winter, pajamas in summer, undone hair, untidy desk...

But, what is a desk?, I thought my computer was resting just on top of a meter high pile of papers!! Maybe there is a desk underneath after all, I should try to find it one of these days...
