Transliteration of Russian adjectives

I was wondering if anyone could guide me to the convention for transliteration Russian adjectives into English, in particular the masculine nominative ending -ый. Up till now, I've been using -yj but I'm not convinced that that is the best way. Any ideas?

Chicago style guide Oct 14, 2006

The Chicago guide gives a table of accepted transliterations. It looks like they would have you write -iy.

American Library Association & Library of Congress Romanization), which you might find useful.

I agree with -iy. As you know, each Russian letter represents a slightly different sound and -iy seems to be the most common way to transliterate it.

Thanks all for the help. -iy it shall be. It's funny, I always considered this too stupid a question to ask, but I'm glad I did. As they say, the only stupid question is the question not asked.
