I started subtitling recently and so far have charged clients per minute. The other day I received the offer which seems a bit low. They offer 0.18 USD per subtitle for translation and 0.03 USD per subtitle for proofing. How many words per subtitle there are? Thank you Amra

I don't know about the average number of words in a st, but I can tell you 0.18 USD per subtitle is not good at all. That would be 180 USD for a movie with 1000 st...

between 34 an 40. (In german it could be a half word!) It depends on the type (video, cinema, format, and so on!) You are right, the rate is LOW!

You also have to think about how many subtitles there are...Imagine you are translating a series of about 250 subtitles. Just try to calculate and compare how much you would earn charging, say 5/6 € per minute (minimum) and how much you would earn with 0.19 USD (! = 0.15 € at today's exchange rate) per subtitle. Do you wish to work 1-2 days for 37 €? I don't think so.
