All Chinese proz members should work together in a collaborate organizational / flexible form to standardize the quote, expertise level, image, at mean time, to exchage information, skills, and supports, etc. Let us work together to improve and promote the service quality and level of Chinese translation business.
Jianjun Zhang United Kingdom Local time: 13:29 English to Chinese + ... Hope to reap much | Mar 28, 2005 |
I have long been thinking about that we Chinese translators should establish collabrative rapport and even a professional organization. I am deeply concerned about the translation market place in China - cheap labor, poor quality among other unfortunate things we don't like to witness. I hope more translators could take part in this Powwow and bring here insights. Hope to see you on May 1st.

Now this place is becoming hot. I even can smell the warm tea on that day. I still can't decide whether to attend that day, because there's still 20+ days ahead and I have some work to finish before I can come. But really like to meet you all personally. I think it's a good time to equip ourselves with good ideas and exciting reports. I thank the hosts for their hospitality and time. Two hours is short, so let us be prepared beforehand and we won't see time stealing away while we are exchanging greetings and biz cards. BTW, is there a program guide so we can have something to stick to and for those who want to make speeches? Another thing, I don't know how many people are like my case, but I'd like to raise this I'm a Muslim so I don't drink any beer and I don't smoke. Water and single-use cups are fine for me. Anybody else? Thanks to all of you. ▲ Collapse

If I can successfully attend this great seminar then, I would like to have a discussion with you on the marketing issue. For a freelance translator/interpreter, this issue is very important, I think.

I hope we can have a deep discussion about marketing and the possibility of setting up a reliable translator/interpreter network. Recently I read a discussion on Proz forum about "first world companies" offering "third world prices". How can we unite and protect our own interests? We do the same hard quality work but get much less in most cases! The big guys are playing with us and we compete with one another ruthlessly. Are we a pack of savage animals? We are being taken advantage of too much! ... See more I hope we can have a deep discussion about marketing and the possibility of setting up a reliable translator/interpreter network. I admit this process will not be smooth and probably will take longer than we expect. But we should start now, shouldn't we? This Powwow is a good starting point. But limited by its time and attendance, we certainly can't cover everything. This is why I suggest we have a program schedule and as long as we stick to it and focus on some specific topic(s), we can benefit most from this precious opportunity. Hey, please vent your opinions my dear collegues. ▲ Collapse
Roy Zhang Local time: 20:29 English to Chinese + ... Some other thoughts for price issue | Apr 8, 2005 |
To be objective, I think the low pricing level for local translation resource is majorly resulted from non-standard and non-regulated market environment and mess-up of competition of local translation agencies, teams and freelancers... I am definitely sure that we have much to discuss on this issue. Have a nice weekend, my fellows! Regards, Roy
