English term

revenue service interruption

English Tech/Engineering Transport / Transportation / Shipping
I am translating a ppt presentation about building out and upgrading signalling systems on underground/subway lines.

One of the list items reads

Re-signalling projects: Installation problems on line still being used. Operation constraints: limitation of the number of test nights and revenue service interruption

I have problems with "revenue service interruption". Obviously, the interruption of the service decreases the revenue – but "revenue service interruption" would be a very obscure way of expressing this. Any ideas?

interruption of passenger service

I happen to know this as I work for a passenger rail co. in Sydney. "Revenue service" is basically a rail service for which passengers pay a fare, as opposed to a service which either does not carry passengers or is just done for testing purposes. A simpler way of putting it is "passenger service."

Thanks, KM!
agree Peter Skipp : i.e., paraphrasing it, you get "an interruption to a service which raises revenue"
