PDF software I regularly use, and some limitations Nov 5, 2012

Hullo Natalie,

Hullo Natalie,

Thank you. I share Mahmoud's appreciation of your efforts in compiling all that information, and in setting it out so clearly.

I should like to take this opportunity of sharing information about a piece of software I use almost every day for reading, limited editing and conversion of PDF files: Nuance PDF Converter Professional 5.2. I don't find it perfect in every case, but it does help in converting scanned PDF files into a number of office-technology formats. I shall look and see what version of ABBYY I have, and thanks to your article, update it to the 6 or later version that converts PDF files.

One major criticism I have of the Nuance software I have cited here - and this may also be a limitation of other software - is that it fails to handle landscape pages turned vertically for inclusion among portrait-format pages. Merely rotating the page on the screen does not change its native orientation, and the only way I can decently convert these pages (usually large and complex tables) is to print them out, then scan them as one or a collection of landscape pages.

Obviously, I shall download the free software you mention in your article, and inspect it for this desired function. However, can anyone indicate in these columns PDF-handling software that adequately tackles this orientation-related task?

With kind regards,

Adam Warren (IanDhu - 41189)
