I am translating a huge manual of 56,000 words.

There are several files, one of which accounts 15,000 words.

The original file is in RTF (Word).

the translation went well even if it is full of tags.
I can generate te target translation in RTF

but i when try to export for a review i get the following error
"hexadecimal value 0x1E, is an invalid character."


Need help on this one

I have the same problem too. out of 5 word files 2 have the problem. i do not understand why this happen.

Just clean them out manually in Notepad++ Aug 14, 2014

This happens sometimes if the source file you get has invalid characters.
You can just clean them out manually in a normal text editor like Notepad++

The same problem again!!! But this Remy's solution is not working any more

I followed your suggestions but couldn't find any invalid character. Any idea how to solve this mess?

The Word file may be saved as target but can't be exported for external review. No mention about segment number where the possible error is.

My error was 0x1E but after opening the sdxliff in Notepad and searching for & # x 1 E ; I found the rogue dash '-' and replaced it - problem solved

Solved in a different way Jul 27, 2016

First thing, I'd like to thank you all for all your suggestions. I made a "collage" of different solutions, since all that was explained didn't work with my problem. What I did was comparing the original SDL file with the one that didn't work using Notepad++. I found errors which were not even indicated by the validation tools. I just copied and pasted the lines which gave me problems from the original SDL file to the one I could not open, and it worked.
