Dear Romina, Henry and all ProZ staff,

We appreciate very much your efforts and we would like to thank you for your beautiful idea of ProZ translation contests.

Still, in the 6th En-Ru contest there are strong suspicions of some wrongdoings.

One of the examples is that in the 5th contest the winning entry got 27 votes and in the 6th contest the number of voters just FLOODED.

One of the examples is that in the 5th contest the winning entry got 27 votes and in the 6th contest the number of voters just FLOODED.

The 1st place entry took 63 votes and the 2nd place entry took 56 votes.

So, the Russian community requests the ProZ staff to make the votes public.

If this is absolutely not possible it will be necessary to recalculate the results by cancelling the votes from all "suspicious" profiles.

By a suspicious profiles I mean the following:

1. Not a ProZ paid member (any type of membersghip)
2. Identity not veryfied.
3. Limited or no Kudoz activity (say less than 50 KudoZ in any language pairs)

By the way, the significant increase in the number of votes (three times higher than last time) was common to all pairs. More people participated in this contest (as competitors or voters) than all previous contests combined.

Thanks for your kind words and encouragement. There is plenty of room for improvement and we think the contests will only get better.

Regards,
Henry

ProZ must respect user privacy above all Apr 14, 2008

Dear Alexander,

I understand your frustration (though I neither competed nor voted). But I must agree with Henry on this one.

User privacy must be put before other concerns. In addition, disclosing the choices users made when voting would probably only result in anger and quarrel. This would only make matters worse instead of solving anything.

I can imagine you must be severely disappointed over the whole voting issue in your pair. I've read what you and

I can imagine you must be severely disappointed over the whole voting issue in your pair. I've read what you and others wrote on the subject and I must admit it sort of put me off ever participating in this contest. That is unless the voting system is significantly improved.

Btw, until now I never thought people took the contest seriously enough to go and actually cheat in order to increase their chances of winning.

Privacy Apr 15, 2008

There is a way to respect privacy and to avoid cheating: we just need a proper warning saying that any vote might become public. I strongly believe that this will make voting more responsible.

P.S. I fully understand that without such a warning it is impossible.
