Some may think this is exploitation of ProZ by the other organization, but I am glad it happened, as I had not previously been aware of the agency in question, though I had already formed some doubts about it and decided not to take it any further.
This made me wonder if ProZ itself could do more to publicize such warnings, possibly by altering the Blue Board rules so that dodgy agencies can be entered on it even by a translator who has not actually worked for them, or possibly by adding a section permanently on the home page from which ProZ forum pages referring to such agencies could be accessed at any time. ▲ Collapse

I agree to most of what you wrote, except the part "by altering the Blue Board rules so that dodgy agencies can be entered on it even by a translator who has not actually worked for them".

I believe the present site rule regarding the BB is to avoid people entering groundless lies based on other people's experience or hearsays. Personally, I agree to the idea of being able to enter a rating even though one has not worked for that particular agency, since I see many people getting ripped off or hustled because they have simply overlooked the BB or just being careless before accepting a job from those dodgy agencies. Personally, I have a few agencies which I would die to enter low ratings as warnings to other translators, but since I haven't worked for them, I cannot do that. The only anxiety I feel is that there might be someone who would abuse this system, maybe out of grudges (ex. ex-employee) or someone having a bad day to vent one's steam off.
Do you think you could suggest an idea where abuse might not take place implementing the idea you suggested above? ▲ Collapse

At present, there are at least two means through which spam or scam can be reported at ProZ.com. One is to report it through the support system to help support staff handle the problem more efficiently. The other is to use site forums to warn other service providers.

At present, there are at least two means through which spam or scam can be reported at ProZ.com. One is to report it through the support system to help support staff handle the problem more efficiently. The other is to use site forums to warn other service providers.
In case of using the support system to report any abuse or email spam/scams/phishing through your ProZ.com mail service, you may either submit a support request that includes all relevant details (a copy of the message, headers, etc.) or else click on "Unsolicited advertising? Spam? click here" at the bottom of the email you received in your email inbox or on "Report spam" if you are receiving such message as an instant message. In both cases a support request will be automatically generated, containing all the necessary information ProZ.com support staff needs to take appropriate action.
If using the forums, you can post the emails you received or describe the situation, but no names should be mentioned. The purpose of avoiding naming names in a case like this is to prevent possible issues with libel, since the names used in these cases are not always made-up and can be the names of actual, innocent, persons. In general the messages themselves are sufficient to warn other translators.
Note that, in most cases, it is recommended that both methods are used so that site staff can investigate further and take immediate and appropriate action.
