Although we are not dependent on school holidays, my partner and I usually take a couple of weeks off in summer as it is getting more and more difficult to stay inside for a whole day and things tend to slow down a bit anyway.
We also take at least a week around Christmas. The rest of the year, holidays depend on opportunities and ideas presenting themselves.

If I leave my desk to travel, it's usually for a specific purpose. My last travel was in June 2016, for events to commemorate my late husband in Brazil.
Other than special trips of this kind, I work straight through the year.

I put middle of the year, although this year we will be taking our main holiday in September since our kids won't be coming with us now that they are working. I've already been to the UK and south of France in the past weeks, although I took my laptop to cater to direct clients at least so they weren't complete breaks. I prefer to take several short breaks rather than disappear for a whole month, if I do go away for an extended period, I take my laptop with me.

Working on holiday may sound like a drag, but then my approach to freelancing is that I work just enough to cover my modest expenses, leaving time for other activities such as sport, volunteering at an NGO, gardening, sewing and art exhibitions. ▲ Collapse

I am taking two main holidays this year, both of which are over the summer holidays to coincide with what is traditionally my quietest period of the year for work. In addition, I am taking four short breaks over the autumn and winter.

Because of exams, I'm used to taking short breaks during the summertime, in July or in August. For instance, this August I'll go to Moscow. It's not a real vacation (I'm going to attend a course) but I'd say it's more restful than exams

Normally I would say when I can. but this year it will be at the end of October, though just for one week. I always avoid peak seasons such as summer or holidays, especially late December/early January.

Like Muriel I work straight through the year. I used to take a month-long vacation when my children were still at home, but those days are long gone and we haven’t spent vacations together for some time (trying to get 14 people agreeing on the same date and place is an almost impossible task…). Nowadays, I enjoy having one or two days off here and there between jobs, rather than very few long vacations. It all adds up probably to more than 4/5 weeks a year, but I’m not counting!

When I have time to take a vacation, I have no money, and when I have money, I have no time.
Vacation to me, is just going for a ride in Ontario or other small town in Quebec to go thrifting at garage sales, when I have no work on weekends.

Christmas, summer, Easter, local bank holiday... whenever. My longest holiday is usually in the summer.
I must admit that I work mainly to go on holiday and contribute to global warming. I certainly can't work all year round without switching off for a few weeks a year.

I never take any vacation. I'm a freelancer. As soon as I don't work, I don't make any money any more.
