English to Malay: The Uniqueness of Angkor Wat General field: Other Detailed field: General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters
Source text - English The Uniqueness of Angkor Wat
Angkor Wat is a complex of temples built in 802 and to this day, 1200 years later, continues to be the centre of tourism attraction who loves the beauty of old architecture. Located six kilometers from the town of Seam Reap or 353 kilometers from Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s capital , Angkor Wat is a magnificent and attractive giant complex of temple not only in Cambodia but throughout Asia.
The Angkor complex began to attract attention in the late 19th century after being discovered by a Western traveler and in 1992, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) declared this complex as a world-wide historical site. According to the story, the construction of 72 temples reached for 150 years and employed nearly two million workers.
Every temple in the complex was built by the government at that time and that is why the temple has different names. Among them include Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, Bayon, Preah Khan, Prasat Kravan, and Ta Prohm. Besides the great Angkor Wat, Ta Prom temple is also quite interesting. Located on the east west wing of Angkor Thom, Ta Prom temple was built in 1186 by King Jayavarman VII who ruled Cambodia from 1181 to 1220.
Ta Prom temple can be regarded as one of the largest temples in the Angkor Complex. Visiting Ta Prom is also an appreciation for nature. Whether or not , the stone walls built nearly 1,000 years ago looks obsolete here and there. The roots of bayon and kapot trees roam the stone walls of the temple, like a snake carrying the prey, while the trees themselves grow taller like giant.
English to Malay: Term of Organizational General field: Social Sciences Detailed field: Social Science, Sociology, Ethics, etc.
Source text - English The term organizational climate is sometimes confused with organizational culture and there has been much debate on what distinguishes the concept of climate from that of culture. In his analysis of this issue Denison (1996) suggested that culture refers to the deep structure of organizations, which is rooted in the values, beliefs and assumptions held by organizational members. In contrast, climate refers to those aspects of the environment that are consciously perceived by organizational members. Rousseau (1988) stated that climate is a perception and is descriptive. Perceptions are sensations or realizations experienced by an individual. Descriptions are what a person reports of these sensations.
The debate about the meanings of these terms can become academic. It is easiest to regard organizational climate as how people perceive (see and feel about) the culture existing in their organization. As defined by French et al (1985) it is 'the relatively persistent set of perceptions held by organization members concerning the characteristics and quality of organizational culture.' They distinguish between the actual situations (ie. culture) and the perception of it (ie. climate).
The significance of culture
As Furnham and Gunter (1993) comment: 'Culture represents the "social glue" and generates a "we-feeling." Organizational culture offers a shared system of meanings which is the basis for communications and mutual understanding. If these functions are not fulfilled in a satisfactory way, culture may significantly reduce the efficiency of an organization.'
