Source text - French Encore une île et Toni saurait. Encore une île et Clochy rendait son âme aux diables. Encore une île et Mamina guérissait, les salamoks retournaient en enfer: fini les esprits méchants qui tourmentent les vieillards et mordent au cou les enfants endormis.
Toni ramait au crépuscule à travers les marais déserts et la rame grinçait. Pas une âme en vue. Le brouillard calfeutrait l'horizon, le chaland filait sur les joncs noyés. Jambes nues à l'arrière du bateau, les larmes aux yeux, il suppliait: s'il vous plaît sauvez-la, s'il vous plaît. Lanciné par l'angoisse il voyait sa grand-mère à l'hôpital, le visage épuisé, les salamoks à l'affût près du lit, sauvez-la, sauvez-la.
Il ramait la gorge nouée, n'osant pas avoir peur, terrifié quand même à la vue du soleil rasant qui préludait aux ombres. Il évitait les amas de sphaignes lustrées à fleur d'eau, il apercevait des scalps hirsutes et des mains bleues, il croisait des . lingots de boue, des chênes solitaires et goitreux; des racines où les remous s'enroulaient sans reflet, sans bruit. Dans la roselière il distinguait des êtres difformes occupés à mâchonner et il s'affolait. Le visage de Mamina dérivait ondoyant comme une méduse. Bientôt la nuit, les ricanements. Les salamoks remonteraient vers la surface et s'épanouiraient en corolles phosphorescentes.
Il avait quitté Saisine après la classe. Négligeant ses copains, oubliant Maï, il courait jusqu'à l'embarcadère et se hâtait de larguer l'amarre, impatient d'aller relever son piège à démons. C'était là-bas au nord des lagunes, la Secrète, l'îlot du châtiment. Il avait déjà doublé l'île aux Butors, doublé l'entrée du tunnel en ruine, l'épave échouée du cabin-cruiser Ulysse, les pylônes de l'ancienne force électrique avec leurs câbles ballants, le dépôt d'ordures, un marécage à sec toujours enfumé. Il atteignait la rive nord, le désert des Sphaignes où gisait son îlot secret.
Il tressaillit. Le crépuscule résonnait, des cloches étouffées, des chuchotements, des adieux, sa propre voix lui disant adieu, adieu Toni adieu. Par-dessus le pâle écho des angélus il entendait battre son coeur et voyait sa grand-mère à l'hôpital, il voyait les salamoks prêts à monter sur le drap. S'il vous plaît ne penser à rien. S'il vous plaît la douceur du printemps, les jours plus longs, les étangs bariolés sous les fleurs étales, en mars le carex à fleur noire et la renoncule à fleur blanche, la bruyère mauve et la bruyère cendrée. En juin les étangs bleuiraient. Translation - English One more island and Toni would know. One more island and Clochy would surrender his soul to the devils. One more island and granny would get better and the salamoks would go back to hell; evil spirits who tormented the elderly and bit sleeping children’s necks would be gone.
Toni was rowing across the empty marsh in the dusk, the oar creaking. Not a soul in sight. Fog was filling the horizon, the boat gliding over drowned rushes. He was praying, bare legs facing the back of the boat, tears in his eyes: Please save her, please. Tormented by fear, he saw his grandmother in hospital, her exhausted face and the salamoks lying in wait near the bed. Save her, save her.
He was rowing with a lump in his throat, not daring to be frightened, but terrified none the less by the sight of the sinking sun, heralding darkness. He steered clear of the heaps of glossy bog moss breaking the surface of the water, perceiving shaggy scalps and blue hands. He crossed muddy ingots, like solitary and goitrous oaks, with roots where eddies swirled with no reflection or noise. In the reed beds he could make out misshapen beings busy munching and he lost his nerve. Granny’s face drifted into his mind, undulating like a jellyfish. Soon it would be night and, with it, the sniggering would begin. The salamoks would rise to the surface again and unfurl like phosphorescent petals.
He had left Saisine after school. Ignoring his friends, forgetting Mai, he had run to the landing stage and rushed to cast off the mooring rope, impatient to go and find his demon trap. Over there, in the north of the lagoon, was The Secret- the islet of punishment. He had already gone round Bittern Island, gone round the ruined tunnel mouth from the wreck of the grounded cabin cruiser Ulysses, with its formally live electric wires and deposits of rubbish- a dried-up, blackened quagmire. He was reaching the north bank and the Bog Moss Wilderness, where his secret islet lay.
He shivered. The sound of muffled bells, whisperings and farewells resonated in the dusk. His own voice was saying farewell to him- farewell Toni, farewell. He could hear his heart beating over the faint echo of bells announcing the Angelus and see his grandmother in hospital; he could see the salamoks ready to climb up the sheets. Please, don’t think of that. Please, think instead of the warmth of spring, of long days, of multi-coloured pools under spreading flowers- the black flowered carex and white buttercup and purple and grey heather of March. In June, the pools would turn blue. Please, think of bitter-sweet purple berries, of thousands of dragonflies shimmering over the water, of amorous tree frogs along the flooded channels where he and his cousin bathed, and of granny in her bedroom, free of pain, with her Pope Joan game and her dominoes.

J’alimente plusieurs glossaires spécialisés pour m’aider dans mon travail.My resources include a number of general up to date dictionaries. I am trained to use SDL Trados 2011 as a CAT tool. I maintain a series of specific subject glossaries to support my work. Zu meinen Arbeitsressourcen gehören unter anderem eine Reihe von neuesten allgemeinsprachlichen Wörterbüchern.
