English to Turkish: Ebook reader to offer Linux dev platform
Source text - English A Berlin-based start-up called Txtr is readying an ebook reader that boasts an "open architecture" Linux development platform. Like Amazon's Kindle 2, the Txtr Reader offers a 532MHz processor, a 3G connection, a second-generation E Ink grayscale display, and tie-ins to online services.

Txtr appears to be a spin-off from Berlin-based Wizpac, which has been developing the Txtr.com site and Txtr Reader. Targeting the German market, the Txtr Reader and associated Txtr.com site are due to launch in the third quarter.
Measuring 5.7 x 5.0 x 0.3 inches, the Txtr is smaller than the Kindle 2, which is 8 x 5.3 x 0.36 inches. The Txtr also promises more memory and storage expansion, faster graphics, a more open Linux architecture, and support for standard open ebook formats, such as ePub, PDF, HTML, and RSS feeds (not to mention Powerpoint and RTF office documents).
The Txtr Reader will connect to Txtr.com via WiFi or 3G cellular networking. The site will boast an online store with German-language books, blogs, and news. It will also offer web services, such as document storage, shopping, and interesting document publishing and sharing capabilities. With the latter feature, users will be able to define security and sharing privileges for selected users, and the service will support document versioning, automatic sorting, online discussions, and user ratings of publications. Tools such as BibTex will be offered to support academic workgroups, the company said.
Furthermore, an interesting "air share" feature aims to let users trade documents wirelessly with other nearby users.
Txtr.com (top) and Txtr Reader
Like the Kindle 2 and most other recent ebook readers, the Txtr Reader runs an undisclosed embedded Linux implementation. Unlike Amazon, however, Txtr is encouraging an open development environment for the platform. The company plans to offer an "open software architecture," as well as a developer API that offers support for on-device third-party applications.
The API can apparently also be used to by third-party developers to add Txtr.com support to other devices. At launch, the company will offer a Txtr.com client for the Apple iPhone, it said.
Txtr Reader
The Txtr Reader device is built around an ARM11-based Freescale system-on-chip (SoC) clocked to 532MHz. This is most likely the Freescale i.MX31, which is used in the Kindle 2, but it may it may also be the newer i.MX37 SoC.

The Txtr uses a 6-inch E Ink electronic paper display. Specifically, the device will use the second-generation E Ink Vizplex display, which steps up from four to eight shades of gray. Native resolution is SVGA (800x600), and an Epson display controller is said to deliver graphics fast enough even for small animations (most E Ink displays currently take a second or two for each refresh).
The Txtr Reader will have 64MB SDRAM and 1GB flash, expandable via a MicroSD card slot supporting high-density cards up to 8GB. By comparison, the Kindle 2 offers 32MB RAM and 2GB internal flash, and Amazon removed the SD card slot that had been offered with the popular Kindle 1.

Like the Kindle 2, the Txtr Reader offers a 3G/GPRS data connection, but it also provides WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, and "low power 2.4GHz near range communication." The latter isn't further detailed, but our guess would be Bluetooth AMP. The device's Li-Ion battery, meanwhile, can charge via a USB 2.0 connection, and offers battery life that lasts for several days of reading, claims Txtr.
The Txtr Reader's capacitive touch slider is said to enable comfortable single-handed operation. An accelerometer detects the orientation of the device, and automatically aligns the UI for portrait, landscape and left-handed mode, says the company.

Translation - Turkish Txtr adı verilen Berlin merkezli bir kuruluş; “açık mimari” Linux geliştirme platformu vaat eden bir e-kitap hazırlıyor.

Txtr okuyucu, WiFi veya 3G hücresel ağı üzerinden Txtr.com’a bağlanacak.
Txtr Okuyucu
