Bio
My name is Simon Vahlne and I am currently living in Gothenburg, Sweden, where I work partially as a freelance translator. Here's some general info on myself, what I do and have done.

Storytelling and writing is what I do for a living. I work as a commercial director, and since I'm fluent in Swedish and English, I've also started freelancing as a translator. Writing professionally, working on manuscripts and pitching ideas for potential clients, is something I do on a daily basis, and something that I very much enjoy. Reading a lot is an prerequisite in my line of work, and the best way to supply your creativity with fresh ideas and means of expression. A lot of what I do is about finding the best way of expression, which is why I've started translating.

My education is quite unique, and spans from college in the U.S to university in the Czech Republic. Since I knew I wanted to be a filmmaker, my ambition was to build a knowledge as multilateral as possible, and to learn from many different parts of the world. After graduating from upper secondary school with a degree in natural science, I moved to Los Angeles to study threatre. I spent two years in America, which included theoretical studies in English and theatre and practical training in Hollywood. After that I moved back to Sweden, studied economics and film knowledge at Gothenburg University, while I searched for a school where I could focus my knowledge in film. I found what I was looking for at the Prague Film School, where I moved to next, to get a final degree in directing.

Workwise, my experience is varied as well, but follows a similar path. I have always picked jobs where I could utilize and improve my language skills. Parallel to getting my Natural Science degree, I worked for three years as a reporter at a local newspaper, where I wrote youth related articles, mostly about film. Thereafter, I got a full time teaching job at a high school, where I taught English and Swedish. When in the U.S, I worked partially as an actor, first and foremost on the stage, but also doing voiceovers for commercials. My latest job, which also served as practical training as part of my directing degree, was at an advertising agency/production house in Gothenburg.

Aside from my professional career, my main hobby is probably travelling. Whenever I get the chance and have the money, I like to go somewhere new, to switch off for a while, and replenish my senses with exciting impressions. My number one destination recently has been Tokyo, where my girlfriend lives (the definition of a long-distance relationship!).

I think that pretty much sums up who I am and what I've done! Please feel free to get in touch with me regarding any job that involves translating from Swedish to English, or the other way around. Given my education and professional experience, film and marketing related texts would be my absolute speciality, but I am more then willing to take on projects in other fields.

I'm looking forward to hearing from you!

Yours Sincerely,

Simon Vahlne
