Discussion

Katalin Szilárd Aug 4, 2009:
Dear Rossitsa, The problem is that following: Neither in English nor in Hungarian these terms do not appear the way as you wrote "Pensky-Martens closed cup// Cleveland open cup". They are either connected with the name of these methods such as "PMCC: Pensky-Martens closed cup method// COC: Cleveland open cup method" or they mean the device "PMCC: Pensky-Martens closed cup tester// COC: Cleveland open cup tester". This answer looks perfect if we don't care about the meaning of these terms:
PMCC: Pensky-Martens zárt tégely // COC: Cleveland nyitott tégely
Because there is no such device as "
PMCC: Pensky-Martens closed cup // COC: Cleveland open cup but there are
PMCC: Pensky-Martens closed cup tester // COC: Cleveland open cup tester.

Dear Creativity, first of all, thank you for your help! :)
As I explained in my question - these two items (acronyms) appeared as such - two separate, non-contextual items. We found these to be acronyms in English, yet their respective HU translation is needed. I wish I could say more, but ... I realize that 'Pensky-Martens' as well as 'Cleveland' should stay unchanged, so it's only for the remaining terms to be translated. :)

Question to Rossitsa Are you sure you meant "Pensky-Martens closed cup" and not the whole device? It's very likely that you meant this whole device: http://www.biofueltesting.com/product.asp?ID=3639&bShowDetai... If you need this whole device: "Pensky-Martens closed cup tester" then you need to use a different Hungarian term.

COC (Eng.) = OC (Hun.)

Whole names of methodology are mostly applied.

English term (edited): pmcc: pensky-martens closed cup tester // coc: cleveland open cup tester

Pensky-Martens rendszerű lobbanáspontmérő készülék // Cleveland rendszerű lobbanáspontmérő készülék

I assume you want to know the name of these devices:

http://www.biofueltesting.com/product.asp?ID=3639&bShowDetai...

http://www.bridgat.com/files/Cleveland_Open_Cup_Flash_Point_...

These devices don't have acronyms in Hungarian. When it comes to the name of the devices, they just mention Pensky-Martens or Cleveland (flash point measuring) device. But they don't use "closed cup" or "open cup" in these Hungarian terms. if you need the method names then you wrote "closed cup or open cup methods".

"Én nem merek javaslatot tenni, mert csak mérő szakember vagyok, de például nyílttéri lobbanáspont mérő készüléket csak magas hőmérsékletre lehet kapni (79 °c felett mérő Cleveland készülék), a Német és az USA besorolásoknál is, a veszélyes áruszállítási besorolásnál is a zárttéri lobbanáspontot használják."
