attach a TM to a project

How can I attach an existing translation memory to a Project ?

I know the option is Register local, but there more to it than pressing that option.
Could you give me step-by-step instructions, with all the details. I am new to memoQ.

Create new empty TM and import external TM into it Feb 8, 2018

Suppose you have external TM in TMX format.
MemoQ uses some native TM format (not TMX), so you should create new empty MemoQ TM with correct languages (in Resource console or in Project home page, Translation memory tab - press "Create new"). Then you should import your external TMX file into this new TM. Now you can connect this TM to your current project.

then click Project home> Translation memories and check the box with your TM name.
