Source text - English Once upon a time, there was a prince who wanted to marry a princess; but she would have to be a real princess. He traveled all over the world to find one, but nowhere could he get what he wanted.
There were princesses enough, but it was difficult to find out whether they were real ones. There was always something about them that was not as it should be. So he came home again and was sad, for he would have liked very much to have a real princess.
One evening a terrible storm came on; there were thunder and lightning, and the rain poured down in torrents. Suddenly a knocking was heard at the city gate, and the old king went to open it.
It was a princess standing out there in front of the gate. But, good gracious! what a sight the rain and the wind had made her look. The water ran down from her hair and clothes; it ran down into the toes of her shoes and out again at the heels. And yet she said that she was a real princess.
Well, we'll soon find that out, thought the old queen. But she said nothing, went into the bed-room, took all the bedding off the bedstead, and laid a pea on the bottom; then she took twenty mattresses and laid them on the pea, and then twenty eider-down beds on top of the mattresses.
On this, the princess had to lie all night. In the morning she was asked how she had slept.
"Oh, very badly!" said she. "I have scarcely closed my eyes all night. Heaven only knows what was in the bed, but I was lying on something hard so that I am black and blue all over my body. It's horrible!"
Now they knew that she was a real princess because she had felt the pea right through the twenty mattresses and the twenty eider-down beds. Nobody but a real princess could be as sensitive as that. So the prince took her for his wife, for now he knew that he had a real princess; and the pea was put in the museum, where it may still be seen, if no one has stolen it.
Translation - Indonesian Pada suatu ketika, ada seorang pangeran yang hendak mencari seorang puteri untuk ia nikahi. Namun, puteri itu haruslah seorang puteri sejati. Pangeran bepergian mengelilingi dunia untuk mencari puteri impiannya itu, tetapi Ia selalu gagal untuk menemukan puteri tersebut setiap kali Ia datang ke tempat yang ia singgahi.
Memang ada banyak puteri yang ia temui, namun sangat sulit untuknya menentukan yang mana puteri sejati. Selalu saja ada sesuatu hal yang dilakukan oleh puteri–puteri tersebut yang tidak sebagaimana mestinya dilakukan oleh puteri sejati. Oleh karena itu, sang pangeran pun kembali pulang ke kerajaannya dengan hati kecewa karena tidak bisa mewujudkan keinginannya untuk memiliki puteri yang sejati.
Suatu malam, badai besar datang menerpa wilayah kerajaan sang pangeran. Petir bergemuruh, kilat bersahutan, dan hujan turun dengan amat derasnya. Tiba–tiba terdengar suara ketukan dari arah gerbang kota, dan sang raja memerintahkan prajurit untuk membukanya.
Seorang puteri berdiri di depan gerbang. Tapi ya ampun! Terpaan hujan dan angin membuat puteri itu tampak berantakan. Air hujan mengalir dari rambut dan gaunnya, turun hingga menggenangi sepatunya. Sementara ia berkata bahwa dirinya adalah seorang puteri.
Baiklah, lambat laun nanti kita akan mengetahui hal yang sebenarnya, pikir sang ratu. Sang ratu tidak mengatakan apapun. Alih – alih, sang ratu pergi ke kamar tidur dan menarik seluruh seprai dari atas tempat tidur sebelum kemudian meletakan sebutir kacang di atas kasur, lalu meletakan dua puluh lembar matras dan sebuah kacang lagi di atasnya, serta meletakan lagi dua puluh buah selimut bulu angsa di atas matrasnya.
Sang puteri berbaring sepanjang malam. Keesokan harinya dia ditanya, bagaimana kondisi tidurnya tadi malam.
“Sangat Buruk!” sahut sang puteri. “Aku kesulitan memejamkan mataku tadi malam. Aku tidak tahu ada apa sebenarnya dengan ranjangku, namun rasanya aku berbaring pada sesuatu yang keras sehingga kini tubuhku dipenuhi lebam. Itu mengerikan!”
Kini, semua orang di kerajaan itu tahu bahwa puteri tersebut adalah seorang puteri sejati karena ia dapat merasakan sebutir kacang dibawah dua puluh lembar matras dan dua puluh buah selimut bulu angsa. Tak ada seorang pun yang bisa merasakannya, karena hanya seorang puteri sejatilah yang bisa sepeka itu. Akhirnya, sang pangeran pun melamar sang puteri sebagai isterinya karena kini Ia telah menemukan seorang puteri sejati. Kacang tersebut kemudian diabadikan di sebuah museum, yang masih bisa dilihat sampai sekarang bila tak pernah ada seorangpun yang mencurinya.

ikan, utamanya ikan patin, ikan baung dan ikan selais, gulai asam pedas menjadi menu yang paling
sering dihidangkan dalam setiap sajian makan siang atau makan malam masyarakat Melayu. Gulai
asam pedas disajikan sebagai lauk pauk dengan nasi putih yang hangat sebagai menu utamanya.
Sementara itu Daging se’i merupakan daging (sapi atau babi) yang dibumbui lalu diasap hingga
matang. Daging sei biasa disajikan dengan jagung bose, yakni bubur jagung yang dimasak dengan
kacang merah. Sebelum dimasak jagung direndam dalam air kapur sehingga bulir-bulirnya cukup
padat dan lebih berasa dinikmatinya.
Translation - English Gulai Asam Pedas is a popular dish from the people of Kepulauan Riau. By taking fish as its main ingredients, especially Ikan Patin, Ikan Baung, and Ikan Selais, this dish has become the most favorite menu for every Malayan lunchtime and dinner table. Gulai Asam Pedas is served with warm rice as the main course. Beside Gulai Asam Pedas, there is Daging Se’i which is a dish made from marinated beef or pork and smoked until well cooked. Daging Se’i is usually served with Jagung Bose, which is a porridge made from corn and red beans. Before cooked, the corn was soaked in the lime water to make the grains fluffier and tastier to eat.
