I have no medical background, but I have been doing patient-facing clinical trial translation, proofreading, 2nd proofreading and back-translation for more than a decade now. I have worked with a number of other Afrikaans medical translators who recommend me to clients despite my lack of medical training. I have also translated, back-translated and proofread PILs and IV/WRS type of interfaces.

Since 2000 I have translated many types of pharmaceutical and general medical documents. I gained valuable experience as local project manager in South Africa for the translation of questionnaires and similar medical instruments into Afrikaans, or localisation into South African English. However, I found that the interviews needed as part of this process did not fit into my schedule, so I no longer handle these jobs. I translate many clinical trial related and regulatory approval documents.

I have been working for 11 years in the medical industry translation. My main work is in the field of clinical trials, informed consent, marketing, dr's letters. I also did work for package inserts, new devices, new procedures that are described for general public.
