German term

pDI

German to English Medical Medical (general)
Hi team,

I'm translating a discharge summary and just can't figure this out for the life of me. It relates to a part of the foot, any ideas?

Here's part of the report for context:

Die Stationäre Aufnahme erfolgte bei peripherer arterieller Verschlusskrankheit im Stadium IV nach Fontaine rechts, bei progredienter Gangrän an pDI rechts.

Discussion

distal phalanx (?) Dear Lauren,
PDI can stand for many things. We would need more context.
But as you talk of an occlusive arterial disease and gangrene, I suppose the end bones (phalanges) of the right foot's toes are concerned. pDI could mean phalanx distalis.

proximal DI (big toe)

Hi Lauren,

Since we are talking PAOD, "pDI" could be "proximaler Digitus I" , in other words gangrene of the proximal big toe.

phalanx distalis I

The gangrene is more likely to start in the distal rather than the proximal phalanx. See link for use of the abbreviation. The use of Latin terms is common in German medical reports.
