Al igual que María, también encontré "whistle past the graveyard" (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/whistle_past_the_graveyard).
Pero mi lectura es muy distinta y más bien creo que se refiere a la segunda acepción: "To enter a situation with little or no understanding of the possible consequences." De ahí mis sugerencias.
Comentario aparte: te felicito por eso de "enlujuriarse". Simplemente notable :-)
Me gustaría compartir algunas sugerencias que eres libre de aceptar o rechazar:
Las costumbres de las citas en los Estados Unidos son recientes. Durante gran parte de nuestra historia, las citas eran con chaperones y los matrimonios, arreglados por los padres. Ahora en los Estados Unidos y por influencia de Hollywood, creemos que nuestra forma es una mejora y un asunto de derechos humanos básicos. A candid look at our society and at the church shows that we are whistling through the graveyard! Muchos jóvenes piensan que se han enamorado cuando en realidad se han “enlujuriado”.
Al igual que María, también encontré "whistle past the graveyard" (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/whistle_past_the_graveyard).

Sí, mi respuesta no se ajusta al contexto (no estaba cuando la envié). Leyendo el texto, sería más bien algo como que estamos silvando al viento. En otras palabras, no hay nada que se pueda hacer sino seguir la corriente.

estamos escondiendo la cabeza bajo el ala
Tras leer veinte ejemplos de este modismo en contexto, estoy bastante segura de que significa lo mismo que otro modismo más conocido, "to bury one´s head in the sand", es decir, hacer como el avestruz: esconder la cabeza, engañándose de que aquí no ocurre nada y esperando que los problemas desaparezcan sin que nadie haga nada al respecto. Aquí, el tono del texto indica para mí que los escritores miran mal lo de casarse por amor y quieren ver un retorno a los valores de antes; con lo de "whistling through the graveyard", quieren decir que un retorno a esos valores no se va a lograr sin ningún esfuerzo.

La práctica de las citas en los Estados Unidos tienen un origen reciente. Durante gran parte de nuestra historia las citas eran con chaperones y los matrimonios los arreglaban los padres. Ahora en los Estados Unidos hemos sido influenciados por Hollywood para que creamos que nuestra forma es una mejora y un asunto de derechos humanos básicos. A candid look at our society and at the church shows that we are whistling through the graveyard! Muchos jóvenes piensan que se han enamorado cuando en realidad lo que se han es “enlujuriado”. Adoptan las prácticas de la sociedad y practican la inmoralidad. Los bebés están naciendo fuera del matrimonio, los matrimonios fracasan y las conciencias están profanadas o chamuscadas
