This is a letter updating the staff about the measures taken during the COVID-19 crisis. It is a company that produces insulation material. The whole sentence reads:

To minimize the impact, furnace pull has been slight reduced, while bigger reduction of pull in other factories have been taken place.

From Internet search I gather that "The term “furnace pull” shall mean that amount of glass drawn from the glass furnace or furnaces." However, I cannot find anything that would indicate what it is in German. Any ideas?

I still think both term essentially mean the same thing - if I reduce the Schmelzleistung des Ofens (i.e. I put in less glass or I reduce the temperature or whatever), then the Produktionsmenge is reduced as a consequence - i.e. I get less insulation material.

In genau diesem Link wird übrigens auch "Produktionsleistung" verwendet.

"Schmelzleistung
Flüssigmetallmenge, welche der jeweilige Schmelzofen in einer gegebenen Zeit zu schmelzen vermag. Die Schmelzleistung wird in der Regel in Tonnen/Stunde angegeben."

Für mich ist hier "vermag" ausschlaggebend. Es geht m. E. nicht um das Vermögen des Ofens, das sich ja nicht ändert, weil der Ofen nicht ausgetauscht wird, sondern darum, dass die Produktion gedrosselt wird.

Nein, finde ich nicht irrelevant. Übrigens bleiben bei der Google-Suche nach "Glasofen" und "Schmelzleistung" nur 50 Treffer übrig, wenn man mal genauer hinsieht.

@ Susanne - irrelevanter Einwand Die Schmelzleistung gibt an, wie viel Glas im Ofen geschmolzen und daher in "Deinen" Worten produziert wird. The term “furnace pull” shall mean that amount of glass drawn from the glass furnace or furnaces = the pull can vary from ~ 20 tons per day (TPD) up to > 700 TPD

"Schmelzleistung" scheint sich eher auf die technische Kapazität des Ofens zu beziehen. Um die geht es aber doch hier nicht.

@ Bettina Glasofenproduktion gives 6 Google hits - Glasofenproduktionsleistung 0 hits. Schmelzleistung is the technical term for glass furnaces and is used 552 times in this context. Thus, I would prefer the correct term Schmelzleistung. Produktionsleistung is used 150 000 times in other contexts. Within the 6 google hits Glasofenproduktion is used for producing the furnace itself - Wir besitzen zwei verschiedene Produktionszweige, Glasofenproduktion und Heizung, Herstellung von Glasöfen; Glasofenproduktion; Glasofenfertigung… Thus, Produktionsleistung in context with furnaces means a factory can produce a give numer of furnaces within a given time.

@gofink The given definition of Schmelzleistung sounds to me as if it is pretty much the same as "Produktionsleistung".

Durchsatz wird als throughput übersetzt. Hier handelt es sich wohl eher um die Menge die vom Ofen "abgerufen" bzw. herausgenommen wird
