Larissa Boutrimova (asker) Jun 23, 2011:
Igor, no, I didn't know that. Thanks for sharing.
Reverse order of minerals in an assemblage Larissa, just in case you do not know.

In English translation, кварц-биотит-серицитовый will become sericite-biotite-quartz (minerals are given in the order of decreasing abundance, whereas, in Russian it is the other way around)

Example: Porphyritic volcanic rocks are further classified by phenocryst type using mineral name modifiers given in the order of decreasing abundance. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phenocryst

Sorry if I am preaching what you already know.
no slightest offense taken, just being curious
"without" instead of "withou" and "Stupid" instead of "Studpid." - a matter of poor relay between fingers and keyboard and, yes, fingers/brain - you're right at least partly - so is this what irritates you most and what you call 'govno'?
Jack, in good honesty, I'm just Simply and Stupidly tracking the game (and it's a big and rare game, to me - no Google hits in Russian, no paper evidence, no hint from my own memory, no nothing - the greater the thrill) - don't see why you call it what you call it (British word is calk - as per Sir Daniel Jones -sorry for the memory/finger slip). Plus, it's a normal research approach - the more evidence the better. I'm sometimes amazed how (very) serious researchers keep piling proof upon proof upon proof, ad infinitem - but I don' call it names, cos it's normal practice, exhaust your source(s) to complete dryness. In my other answers, too. This way of proceeding brings fruit in worldwide (geology) discussion, so why be different here.

Yeah, I know, "without" instead of "withou" and "Stupid" instead of "Studpid." But at 80 y.o., sometimes the relay between fingers and cerebral axon-dendrite connections get lost--huh!?
Jack slep Jun 23, 2011:
Igor, with due respect to your erudition, don't beat the hell out of your answer. I really don't care it's a "calc" (how about "calque") or not, just Answer the Asker withou a bunch of "govno"! Not just here but other Answers. Follow the KISS principle: Keep It Simple, Studpid! From: The Mean Old Man
To further support this point, there are about 50 Google hits for "Long core axis" + LCA - "the angle which the surface makes with the long axis of the core (the long core axis or LCA)", "foliation at 300 to the long core axis (LCA)" - etc. Chances are the Russian abbreviation is actually a calc from English....
