Punishments in Islamic Shari'a are invariably corporeal. These can be either حدود or تعزير. The حدود are proscribed and the judge has no choice in the type sentece to mete out. In تعزير cases, the judge has absolute discretionay power to vary the sentence to suite the crime. |
