seismic acquisition
In the streamer seismic method, the receivers are encased in a long cable (streamer), which is towed or “streamed” behind the seismic vessel. A typical streamer cable is approximately 80 mm in diameter and houses hydrophones, digitising modules and telemetry cabling in a plastic sheath. The cable sections of the streamers will be connected together with electronic modules that digitise the signals from the hydrophones to an optical carrier that returns the signals to the recording system onboard the vessel. The position of the streamers will be maintained by automatic depth-control ‘birds’ and streamer steering devices.
