Spanish term or phrase: subsanación
On a birth certificate from Cuba, under the signature of the civil recorder, I have:

Confrontado por: subsanación

I would assume that "confrontado" refers to comparing and verifying the data on the certificate with the original data on file. But "subsanación"? Any ideas?

English translation:remediation/ rectification/amendment
Explanation:
Addressed by remediation/rectification/amendment; difficult to be 100% sure, but the likelihood is that some important feature of the birth certificate has undergone necessary change; more context needed, but certain that 'confrontar' can't be translated literally as ' confronted' here.

check/checking

Explanation:
Sounds a bit less stuffy/formal than "remediation/ rectification/amendment" in my opinion, and to all intents and purposes can mean the same.

Example sentence(s):
  • To set the certificate checking mode,...
  • Audit item details for 5.6 Enable OCSP and CRL certificate checking...

neutral  AllegroTrans: I can't see how "check/checking" can mean the same as "remediation/ rectification/amendment"

  -> Do you know what " to all intents and purposes " means? The way I see it, "checking" implies rectification of any errors/defects found. I mean, it's not like you're going to detect them and just leave it at that.

I am going out on a limb here, despite calls for additional context.
