José and I corresponded several times over the years. He generally didn't enter into some of the more controversial discussions, but when he disagreed, he was careful to be polite.

I had grown accustomed to reading José's posts and appreciated his politeness, composure and willingness to help others, in a world where those traits are becoming less and less common.
