в шестом отделе a bit of info Explanation: "Вятский Наблюдатель". I sppose when the guy was inside he was brought to questioning to that "шестой отдел" (which I think is well-known to all drug users and people who are working with them) where he was shown some materials including the mentioned ecstasy "catalogue". |

в шестом отделе comment Explanation: Combination "сидел в отделении" in Russian unambigously referres to being detained in the police department (#6 in this case). Of course, any other department (like, of a hospital, or of an institute) can also be called "отделение", but even when you speak about sitting in a line in, say, department of travma service, you say "сидел я в очереди, в отделении травматологии". These departments are usually district-based, in larger cities there is a number of them per district. There is a small detention cell (or several, for up to three days. Never new they were also providing some extra education free of charge, though :) -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 6 days (2004-06-18 12:12:36 GMT) Post-grading -------------------------------------------------- Newer knew, of course. :) |
