You can make a palette for those special characters that you have to insert often. Or make several palettes, for specific collections of characters.

Install AutoHotkey. See this thread, navigate to the posting "If the Character Map is difficult to navigate, create your own".

Since there are easy ways to insert letters with accents, I've removed them from the palette. I've placed the subscript and superscript numbers on the first row.
