Hello dear colleagues from Greece!
I’m planning to go to Greece and I will stay at a friends' house. They have a normal landline (no DSL or ISDN). I will take my laptop with me and want to connect to Internet via modem.
Now I wonder: Is there a good and reliable Internet service provider for Greece you can recommend me? I will not be there for a long time, only a few days, and all I need is a "call by call" connection, so that I have to pay only for the time I actually have ... When I was in Bulgaria some months ago, there was even a service provider who offered a free connection via modem (just the usual telephone fees). Is there anything like this in Greece, too?

internet connectivity is below medium in greece. there are some services popping up over the last year with free dial up access, meaning no monthly fee, but prices are that of a conventional phone call, approxinaltely 3-4 cents per minute and they are charged to the owner of the phone line (don't know if you would want that)

and i think you don't need to have anything set up in advance.
You can also buy internet connection cards with prepaid internet time. They are sold nearly everywhere, as long as you don't mind the slow internet speeds ▲ Collapse

Yes, that's the best way to have Internet access for a short period of time and it works fine compared to other free dial-up providers. However, it's still a dial-up, so don't expect it to be fast while you surf. Only broadband connections are fast, cheap and very popular in Greece (especially among translators).

Yes, there are two I know of:
vivodi telecom: http://www.vivodi.gr/site/content.php?artid=45
tellas: www.free-internet.gr (free internet website only in Greek, but you can see the username & password required to connect)
Otherwise, most of them have a variety of Internet cards you can buy.
