Seriously, I have an optical mouse that works fine except that, ocassionally, when I'm moving the pointer anywhere on the screen, it locates itself on the 'close window' box.
Can anybody help me with this really annoying problem? Thanks.

Just kidding, I have no idea...
Good luck!

I had a similar problem and was advised to simply give up the pad and use the mouse on the desk surface. It worked.
Thank you, but I don't use a pad with this mouse. Rufino's advice is starting to sound tempting, though.

Might check (or just replace) the batteries in that mouse | Feb 27, 2006 |
Greetings.
You might check (or just replace out of hand) the batteries in that optical mouse (assuming it is a wireless model).
HTH.

I use a regular mouse (w/ mouse pad) and was recently it was getting harder and harder to control...I carefully opened it and to my surprise discovered a dust bunny right on the wheel that controls the side-to-side function. Good luck!

Hi Claudia,
Seriously, I have an optical mouse that works fine except that, ocassionally, when I'm moving the pointer anywhere on the screen, it locates itself on the 'close window' box.
For starters, it would help to describe what type of mouse you're using, and with which software (e.g. MS IntelliPoint 5.0).

I'm using a dynabook, model number M101-C1J. The name of the device is HID-compliant mouse.

...but is that your computer?
The name of the device is HID-compliant mouse.
That's the generic name of the mouse assigned by Windows when you connect the mouse via USB. Isn't the model shown underneath the mouse (e.g. IntelliMouse Explorer)?

That's brand and the model number of the mouse.
HID-compliant mouse is the name of the device shown in the Mouse Properties window.

Hi again,
Thanks for clarifying. I'm not familiar with this make; did it come with its own software? For instance, MS IntelliPoint has a setting where the mouse pointer automatically 'jumps' to the default button in a dialogue - there might be a similar setting for your mouse (I'm guessing here, of course).
Best regards,
Ralf | | |
Thanks for trying Ralf | | |
If the mouse worked OK but suddensly started to behave erratic it has nothing to do with software. I had the same problem several times, and it always came down to dust and cat/hair inside the mouse and/or in the led/openings on the underside. A little maintenace every now and then is a must also on the computer hardware.
