Inscription on plaque

We bought this plaque (probably made of sandstone) at a second-hand market in Picardy, France. We've been unable to identify the language of the inscription, and been assured that it is not modern French, Latin or Spanish.

It would be great to hear if anyone has any ideas on what language it is.
