I tried to install across and it says that it needs Arial Unicode MS...

Can I get the font for open office?

Thanks alot in advance!!!!

Arial Unicode MS Jun 21, 2007

Microsoft used to have their Arial font downloadable for free from their site, but I think they removed this service some time ago.

Anyway, you could try to find that font on your Windows installation CD, or browse the Internet. OOo uses all fonts that you have installed on your system, which means that you will be able to use Arial with OOo once you have installed it.

Whether across will actually work with OOo is another question. I am not sure it actually does.

They answer very quickly, at least in my case they did. As far as I know, however, Across works only with MS Office higher than 2000.

Ascender Corporation Jun 21, 2007

Microsoft essentially sold the Arial Unicode Font to the Ascender Corporation which has subsequently written to sites offering the font for download for free regarding the infringement of copyright. Thus unless you have a relevant Microsoft licence one needs to buy the font from them.

Arial Unicode Font

As you can see it costs $99 and was, at one time at least, defective regarding inputting characters in some languages. The Code2000 font can be bought for $5 and has more characters/glyphs than Arial Unicode* but I see that Across stipulates:
"Arial Unicode MS (Standard)" contains the characters of nearly all character sets used throughout the world. .... It is absolutely necessary that this font is correctly installed.
Arial Unicode MS is not a part of the across installation files, but is supplied with the Microsoft Office package.

*Arial Unicode MS – 38,917 characters (50,377 glyphs) in version 1.01; Code2000 – 51,239 characters (61,864 glyphs) in version 1.16

across only supports MS Office Jul 2, 2007

At the moment across only supports MS Office. But you could save your Open Office document as a MS Word document for example, translate it and convert it back. Unfortunately you need have MS Word installed on your system to import it into across.

When I tried to install Across on my laptop it said MS Office was needed but support at Across told me it would work fine. So far though I've only installed it but not actually used the version on my laptop.
