Control characters with Across

Hello,
I translate into Hebrew, so I often need to use the control characters Alt+0254 or Alt+0253. The problem is that when I use them with Across, their effect - if exists - is invisible. That is, I can see this bent arrow sign of the character, but I can not see its effect on the text, so I do not know if it really had the required effect.

Does anyone know how to make Across show the effect of control characters?
