Source text - Arabic
| Translation - English PRELUDE:
During the Middle Ages: The Western portion of the Islamic Nation was under the direct control of the authority symbols in Damascus and Bagdad. However, in the following years, the figure of authority has shifted between multiple different dynasties, which was, then, followed by the birth of a new independent autonomy during the time of the Umayyad caliphate. Later residing under the Abbasid caliphate up until the establishment of the Fatimid caliphate. Following that, the land was divided into several different states.
What motivated me to research the history of Al-Moravid state was because it was, during its prime, the bulwark keeping Al-Andalus a part of the Arabic and Islamic sovereignty, as well as the catalyst facilitating the spread of Islam across the Sahara down toward Nigeria. For so: curiosity has driven me to inquire about not just the achievements of such state, but also the reasons behind its downfall.
I have divided my work into multiple chapters each focusing on a certain subjects: The first one gives a brief summary pertaining their origin and homeland and the establishment of Al-Moravid state after they gained control over Al-Maghreb and Al-Andalus. The second chapter recounts the conditions in Al-Maghreb right before the fall, and the Qabs and Tlemcen’s revolution as a natural result to the religious symbols’ power becoming too overbearing, the taxes too heavy, and altercation and conflict too spread within the governing authority.
I also desired to shed light on the situation and the events that conspired in Al-Andalus during Al-Moravides downfall: From the burning of Al-Ghazali’s book which Mohammad Ibn Tumart utilized as a foundation for his led uprising and the establishment of his own state, later plotting, conspiring and ultimately confronting them. Down to the rise of Al-Mohades state which effectively felled their nation.
I present this humble work in hope that it lay clear all the factors once contributing to the fall of this influential state, and the rise of Al-Mohades’ in its place.
