Dutch term
applicatief
Dutch to English

IT (Information Technology)
As in:
"Bevoegdheden zijn in veel gevallen intern applicatieve beveiligingsparameters."
This is a term I have come across in the past and never been quite sure exactly what it means. This text is talking approximately about how to control access to software/hardware/data etc by a system of roles but I have come across this term in other contexts. Does it here just mean something like "internally applicable" or does it have some special technical meaning?

In your context, I am pretty certain that the term means nothing more than "internally applicable". However in programming generally, there is a category of programming languages called applicative programming languages and I attach links to reference material.

Applicable vs. applicative
Strictly speaking I think that in an IT context 'applicatief' should be interpreted as 'relating to the application' (i.e. application software as opposed to operating system software). That would mean, however, that here the source text should have read 'intern*e*, applicatieve beveiligingsparameters', which in my view would translate to 'internal, applicative security parameters'. Since the source text reads 'intern' (without the 'e' at the end and without a comma, I tend to agree with Textpertise and would opt for 'internally applicable security parameters'. Further context would then be required to clarify whether 'internally' relates to the software or to the organisation.

: From what I see, 'applicatief' usually means 'application-level' or 'application-related' outside the context of applicative languages. I agree with your grammatical logic, but I wouldn't stake my life on the grammar skills of the average ITer.
