Swedish term

Aktuella vattenlägen

Swedish to English Marketing Marketing
This is a text about a marketing research concerning different companies.
There are no long sentences. It is an excel document where the media give their opinion about their contact with the companies. Whether they are willing to maintain transparency with the journalists or not.
In one of the cells, I found Aktuella vattenlägen, which has confused me. I cannot name the company here but it seems to be a multinational involved in defence and aerospace.

I am grateful for any ideas.

Discussion

Anna Herbst Sep 8, 2013:
@SafeTex My comment on transparency was making reference to Helena's previous posts, your comment happened to come in between, and I hadn't seen it yet when I posted mine. I realise I should have addressed it @Helena to be safe.
Helena Grahn (asker) Sep 8, 2013:
Point taken I am going to write to the client and see what they say. I will let you guys know if I become any wiser. :) Tks!
SafeTex Sep 8, 2013:
@Anna I did say 'IF it was.....' (which implies that it isn't)
We are talking about a company in defense and aerospace and NOT a company with a direct impact on water levels.
The question is why would they suddenly talk about 'current water levels' in a single cell of a marketing survey on the transparency policy of a defense and aerospace company???
Let's not argue but try to find the solution which could also be 'typo', a major error while typing or even a displaced segment after scanning with an OCR before pasting into Excel.
Regards
Anna Herbst Sep 8, 2013:
Transparency So my connection to climate change and pollution issues was not that far fetched by the looks of it. As the Swedish is not pointing towards any sort of idiomatic expression, and it is a heading, I can't see any other solution than a straight forward literal translation.
SafeTex Sep 8, 2013:
Hello Helena If it was a market survey on the transparency policy of an company with a very direct impact on the environment and our lakes and rivers, (hydroelectric power suppliers etc) I could accept Anna's idea.
But it isn't and so I feel that me and Michael are probably on the right track but with a low confidence level
You'll just have to ask the client or go with your instincts on this one.
Good luck
Helena Grahn (asker) Sep 8, 2013:
As you cannot see the question, it is very difficult to guess.

I wonder if current water levels could not be used. At least it would be more faithful to the original text.
If the question for those cells are for instance...

What else do you think (the journalists) they could provide information on?
Helena Grahn (asker) Sep 8, 2013:
I have gone thru more comments in that type of cel The way they use press services on their homepage.
When they increase and decrease prices.
Provided info about power outages.
News and comments about different political measures.

Helena Grahn (asker) Sep 8, 2013:
they are good at informing, Or they are not good at informing...
Transparent, not transparent.
Nothing much other than this.
This one is totally different than the rest
Michael Ellis Sep 8, 2013:
How does the land lie? Could you give us some examples of other 'opinions' in this category, please? This will help us to confirm SafeTex' inspired guess, or find something better.

current water levels

Very difficult to say with certainty without further context, but this would be the likely meaning in my view, possibly having to do with water storage levels - dam levels/reservoir levels - or with the water levels in areas prone to flooding - flood levels/sea levels.
Example sentence:

Högt - men stabilt. Så bedöms vattenläget i Ätran vid Svenljunga.

The Murray River water levels in NSW, SA and Victoria

Peer comment(s):

disagree SafeTex : This is not an act of revenge but must be wrong given the context of a marketing survey on transparency. We all need some help on this

Ever heard of climate change? Rising water levels is one of the problems that may occur in the not too distant future. Transparency from major polluters is sometimes - some may say often - lacking, so there is most certainly a context.

How the land lies

Could this possibly be the Swedish equivalent of the English phrase 'how the land lies' ?
Can any Swede give us the meaning even if you don't have a translation so that we can do it together
Thanks
Peer comment(s):

disagree Anna Herbst : Sorry to be contrary, but you may be thinking about the expression "Hur är läget?" which could translate to "How are things?" or even perhaps "How does the land lie?". I cannot see any connection to the "aktuella vattenläget".

Hi: No problems if you think I'm wrong but there is a problem as your translation does not fit in with the context Anna

Tell(s) it as it is!

Thanks for the examples, Helena.
"Aktuella vattenlägen" seems totally off-the-wall, so here is my guess - well you did say you would be grateful for any ideas!

"Tells it as it is" is a common expression for someone (more often something e.g. a company, a review) who tells the truth to the point of bluntness.
The reference defines the alternative "Tell it it like it is"
Example sentence:

Save the Children tells it as is in Syria today.

Peer comment(s):

neutral SafeTex : Like you Michael, I have a feeling that this is what is meant but we are both at a low confidence level. Anna's literal translation makes no sense in the context. We all need help here

disagree Anna Herbst : If that is your suggestion it could just as well be "It's the real thing" or some other marketing phrase. As a native Swedish speaker, I fail to see how the phrase in question can be translated other than literally.
