Science (general)
bacterial strains

colonised / colonisation
It is not known why several of the donor pigs given a high inoculum dose (106 CFU) did not shed the strain past 4 days p.i. It is likely that there are some individuals that are more resistant to colonization than others (N. A. Cornick, unpublished observations).
Collectively, our data suggest that both the inoculum dose and an individuals' susceptibility to colonization are important factors in the persistent shedding of this organism by some animals.

: Colonized (US) or colonised (British) is used frequently for microorganisms, and established is good too.
