This is the name of a specific type of fireworks, used in Honduras and apparently in other parts of central America. I'm looking for the common English equivalent for the USA.

I am not sure it is the correct term, but I found a site that has an extensive glossary regarding fireworks. Perhaps this will help as you read the terms and the descriptions (maybe you'll find the description that matches the best to your term)

What about Girandolas?
Girandola - A large horizontal wheel that rotates quickly enough to rises into the air. Once it reaches its peak, it usually explodes or shoots flaming stars. Girandolas are rare, and are not considered consumer fireworks items. These are sometimes referred to as "flying saucers". Girandolas are popular in Mexico and Malta.
