Spanish term

chopeando el crowbar

Spanish to English Tech/Engineering Electronics / Elect Eng
Its the "chopeando". I sent a glossary to the client and I didn't know what this word should be, they filled it in as switching - however I see "chop off" all over the internet, but I'm not sure I have the context right? What is right in English?

Esta resistencia disipará 3Kw en momentos instantáneos, ya que cuando el convertidor esté en modo isla, solamente deberá disipar 500W. Estos 500W se obtendrán chopeando el crowbar

chopping (the power to) the crowbar

Without any more context, I will give you my idea as an engineer:

The crowbar is kind of a limiter circuit. If you "chop" (interrupt periodically) the signal or power supplied to it, the sytem power output will be also interrupted periodically and the effective (RMS?) power delivered by the system will be efectively reduced.

It is just a pity not having any kind of diagram or detailed description.

Thanks for your explanation. I reconfirm what I wrote: the verb to use is "to chop" (in the context of electronics/electricity: to modulate ON-OFF a signal) . Example for your note : .a power MOSTFET bridge (S1-S16) converts the input DC to voltage chopped at 20KHz....

With that kind of original material to translate, I certainly don't envy you :-(
Note from asker:
Jorge, did you see the paragraph that I posted with the phrase.....after the question I wrote. It has the phrase in context. Meanwhile I am coing to post another example...it is reallly the "chop" word that is the problem. And thanks for the help with "atacar" yesterday.
Tal y como se puede apreciar en la figura 2, el filtro de entrada está constituido por una inductancia de entrada (Lin) y un condensador (Cin). A continuación un puente de MOSFETs de potencia (S1 – S16) convierte la tensión continua de entrada en tensión ****chopeada**** a 20KHz. Estos MOSFETs son atacados por unos drivers orientados a MOSFETs de potencia, los cuales son optoacoplados. La salida de este puente, ataca un transformador, que elevará la tensión 18 veces.
