M E G B Í Z Á S I S Z E R Z Ő D É S
Amely létrejött a Guathier Production Kft. (Cím:1024 Budapest Margit krt 15-17, Adószám:23324217-2-41) mint megbízó (a továbbiakban: Megbízó) és a Human Operator Munkaügyi és Személyzeti Szolgáltató Zrt. (9700 Szombathely, Kossuth Lajos u. 8.) mint megbízott (a továbbiakban: Megbízott) között az alulírott helyen és időpontban az alábbi feltételek mellett:
1./ A Megbízó megbízza a Megbízottat a gazdasági tevékenysége kifejtéséhez szükséges különböző feladatok és tevékenységfajták elvégzésében való közreműködésre, az azzal kapcsolatos, Megbízó által konkretizált teendők rugalmas munkaidő-beosztással foglalkoztatható diákok általi ellátásának megszervezésére. A Megbízott a feladat ellátását megbízási díj ellenében elvállalja.
3./ A Megbízó által (a szerződés 5./ pontjában rögzített kapcsolattartók írásbeli egyeztetése alapján) meghatározott feladatok elvégzését a Megbízottal szerződéses kapcsolatban álló iskolaszövetkezet nappali tagozatos tanuló illetve hallgató tagjai látják el, akiket az aktuális feladatok Megbízó általi megjelölése után tanulmányi elfoglaltságaik és egyéni képességeik függvényében választ ki az iskolaszövetkezet e feladatok elvégzésére a köztük és az iskolaszövetkezet között létrejött munkaszerződés alapján.. A tevékenységet ellátó diákok munkáltatója tehát az őket foglalkoztató és érdekeiket képviselő iskolaszövetkezet. A diákok nem kirendelés és nem munkaerő-kölcsönzés keretében végzik a tevékenységüket. A diákok szövetkezetük tagjaiként, valamint munkavállalóiként vesznek részt annak vállalkozói tevékenységében szövetkezetüket gyarapítva ezáltal. A diákok közvetlen felettese és a munkáltatói jogok gyakorlója (utasítás, munkaköri beosztás megváltoztatása, rendkívüli munkavégzés elrendelése stb.) az iskolaszövetkezet alkalmazásában álló diákvezető, illetve a témavezető menedzser. A szolgáltatást igénybe vevő Megbízó a szövetkezeti teljesítés során a szövetkezet munkavállalóival szemben munkáltatói jogokat nem gyakorol, közvetlen irányítási joggal nem rendelkezik.
4./ A Megbízó a megbízási szerződésben foglalt feladatok ellátásáért Megbízottnak megbízási díjat fizet. A megbízási díj a ténylegesen teljesített munkavégzésre tekintettel kerül kiszámításra. A megbízási díj rezsi óradíj alapú, mértéke: 825,-Ft / óra / fő. A fenti megbízási díjak általános forgalmi adót nem tartalmaznak, annak mértéke 25%. A fizetési mód átutalás, a fizetési határidő 8 nap.
6./ A Megbízott a megbízási szerződésből folyó feladatok ellátása érdekében saját költségén jogosult más jogi vagy természetes személy közreműködését igénybe venni. A közreműködő tevékenységéért úgy felel, mintha a rábízott ügyet maga látta volna el.
7./ A szerződő felek jelen szerződést határozatlan időre kötik meg. Ennek megfelelően Megbízó gazdasági érdekeinek megfelelően szerződésszerű, hogy egy adott hónapban a Megbízó nem ad le teljesítési igényt. A tevékenység elvégzésére a Megbízó igényeinek megfelelő időpontokban kerül sor. A felek jelen szerződést 30 napos felmondási idővel, írásban a másik félhez benyújtva bármikor indoklás nélkül felmondhatják.
8./ Felek jelen szerződésben is megerősítik, hogy a szerződés teljesítése során a polgári jog általános elve szerint kölcsönös együttműködésre kötelesek. Haladéktalanul és teljes körűen tájékoztatják egymást minden olyan körülményről, amelyek a szerződés teljesítéséhez fontosak. A szerződésben nem, vagy eltérően nem szabályozott kérdésekben a Polgári Törvénykönyv szerződésekre vonatkozó általános szabályai és az egyes szerződésekre vonatkozó szabályok közül a megbízásra vonatkozó szabályok értelemszerűen alkalmazandók. A felek a szerződést és mellékletét elolvasták, értelmezték, és mint akaratukkal megegyezőt az abban foglaltak teljesítését vállalva aláírják.
This agreement was made between Guathier Production Kft. (Address:1024 Budapest Margit krt 15-17, Tax I.D. number:23324217-2-41) as assignor (further referred to as: Assignor) and Human Operator Munkaügyi és Személyzeti Szolgáltató Zrt. (9700 Szombathely, Kossuth Lajos u. 8.) as assignee (further referred to as: Assignee) at the place and time defined below and with the listed terms:
1./ The Assignor entrusts the Assignee to undertake various economic assignments and activities. that are needed in the performance of tasks, and all related duties, as specified by the Assignor, in the organization of those students with flexible working hours, who will complete said assignments. The assignee accepts these duties for certain service fees.
3./ Tasks of the assignor (by written agreement with the contact person, as stated in point 5./ of this contract) are carried out as predetermined and pointed out by the assignor, and are undertaken by students who are contractually bound by the assignee, and who are selected by the school association based on their mandatory studies and according to their individual capabilities, for the purpose of completing these assignments, and who are required to do so because of a previously negotiated work agreement between them and the school association. Therefore, the school association is not only their employer, but the association also represents their interests. The students do not accomplish these tasks within the framework of an assignment or as a shared work force. The students act as members of the school association and also as independent contractors, thereby expanding their association. The direct supervisor of the students who exercises various rights (gives instructions, changes the scope of work, assigns extraordinary tasks, etc.) is the student leader who is directly employed by the school association, or rather, the manager of the given field. The assignor taking advantage of these services during the completion of these tasks by the association does not exercise the rights of an employer with those who are contracted by the association; he does not have the right to give direct instructions.
4./ Following the completion of the Original Work, the assignor shall pay the assignee a fee as prescribed in the service contract. The service fee shall be calculated according to the actual work completed. The service fee is cost plus based, as follows: 825.00 HUF / hour / person. The service fee listed above does not include VAT, the rate for this is 25%. Payment shall be made by bank transfer within 8 banking days.

6./ The assignee has the right to employ, at his own expense, the cooperation of any other legal or natural person in order to assist in any tasks that may be a result of this contract. He accepts responsibility for these persons in the same way as if he completed the said tasks himself.
7./ The contracting parties agree that this contract is valid for an indefinite length of time. Taking this into consideration, it is to the financial benefit of the assignee that on a given month, the assignee may not submit a completion claim. Payment for the completed tasks shall take place at a time that is convenient to the assignee. Either party can nullify this contract at any time without any specific reason by submitting their intentions to the other party 30 days prior, in writing.
8./. The parties declare that they intend to settle any dispute that may arise from this Agreement or the completion of any task, in an amicable manner, through mutual agreement and negotiations. They will without delay, inform the other of all circumstances that may be essential for the completion of work in this contract, and will act in accordance with the general philosophies dealing with contractual responsibilities, in total cooperation with each other. Any issues not regulated in this Agreement shall be governed by the Hungarian Civil Code dealing with contracts, and specifically, of those dealing with contracts in general, those acts dealing with service contract, shall apply. The parties have read and understand the contract and all attachments, and as it is in agreement with their wishes, they sign this contract.

Gyökereket és szárnyakat kell adnunk a gyerekeinknek-szól a mondás, Goethe nyomán. Mi, akik a szocializmus gyermekei vagyunk épp ezeket nem kaptuk meg. A gyökerek nem voltak fontosak, mert a hazafias nevelés helyett internacionálisat kaptunk, szárnyak helyett pedig elvették tőlünk még az időben és térben való tájékozódás képességét is. Emlékszem, hogy az első világútlevelünkkel a tengerhez mentünk, az olasz Adriára. Reggel indultunk s háromkor már fürödtünk a tengerben. S én csak álltam döbbenten, azt hittem elromlott az órám, nem akartam elhinni, hogy a tenger ilyen közel van. S szinte fájt, hogy rájöttem, mindig is itt volt szinte karnyújtásnyira, de elzárták előlünk.
Mindez Tóth Péter Pál Muzsikás történet - A Muzsikás együttes harmincöt éve című filmje kapcsán jutott eszembe.
Először kicsit furcsállottam, hogy majd ötször egy óra egy zenekarról, de hamar kiderült, hogy nem pusztán egy karriertörténetről van szó, de egy sokkal összetettebb folyamatról, amit Németh László úgy fogalmazott meg: „A kultúra nem tudás, nem valamilyen művészi teljesítmény,hanem egy szabályozott életvitel.”
Közel négy évtized után bebizonyosodott, hogy annak a különös, előzmény nélküli, Táncház néven 1972-ben elindult mozgalomnak, amelynek a Muzsikás együttes is alapítója és alakítója roppant jelentősége van. Egyrészt valóban az utolsó pillanatban kapott el és mutatott be egy egyébként elvesző kultúrát, másrészt ennek megmentésével magyarok százezreinek identitását alakította ki, erősítette meg.
A film első részében megtudjuk, ki hogyan került a népzene vonzásába. Éri Péter és ifj.Csoóri Sándor beleszülettek a népzene és a néptánc világába, kicsit Sebestyén Márta is. Sipos Mihály és Hamar Dániel a komoly zene felől indultak és véletlen találkozás eredménye lett a „szerelem”, a felismerés, hogy „ ez a mi igazi zenénk.”Persze mindegyiküknek volt iskolai zenekara előbb ahol Rolling Stonest játszottak.
Aztán a fantasztikus utazások, Erdély tájaira, Mezőségre, Kalotaszegre, Gyimesbe, ahol még az eredeti muzsikusoktól, táncosoktól gyűjthettek, tanulhattak Martin György és Kallós Zoltán útmutatása nyomán. Élményszerű az a tisztelet és kölcsönös szeretet, ami a fiatalokat az idős zenészekhez fűzte, s fűzi ma is. Ma, amikor már ők sem akárkik is olyan áhitatttal mondják ki Icsán Pista, Zerkula János vagy éppen Neti Sanyi nevét, mint egy klasszikus zenész mondjuk Jehudi Menuhinét.Ott, akkor, a hetvenes években nem számított, hogy ki román, ki cigány zenész, csak az, hogyan játszik, van-e tekintélye a közösség előtt. S kölcsönös volt a megbecsülés, mert az öreg zenészek példaként állították a tíz éves pesti fiút- Éri Pétert - a falubeliek elé, mert jól járta a legényest. Az öregektől a legfontosabbat tanulták, értették meg: azt, hogy a falusi zenészek nem amatőrök. Bár nem járnak konzervatóriumba, gyerekkoruktól zenésznek ksészülnek. S ha nem válnak be, nem hívják őket többé muzsikálni. A zenének szerepe, funkciója van a közösségben, a zenészek szolgálatot látnak el. Úgy kell tudjanak muzsikálni, hogy egy lakodalomban két napig is bírják.
Különös szerencse, hogy ekkoriban már épp megjelentek az első videokamerák, s a rendező bőséggel válogathat a fiatal „muzsikásokat” őrző felvételek között. A népzene és tánc reneszánsza sok filmest izgatott, az úttörő, még 16-os kamerával forgató Gulyás testvérektől, Bereczki Csabán át Szomjas Györgyig. Azok a mindig mosolygó, nevető arcok, tiszta tekintetek, összekapaszkodó kezek.Úgy tűnik nem férhet hozzájuk rontás. A farmernadrághoz viselt vászoningek, kozsokok, a széki kendők és szalmakalapok. A divatot teremtő tarisznyák. A fiatalság természetessége, lendülete, magabiztossága. A kislány Sebestyén Mártából a kamera előtt lesz énekesnő, hogy ne mondjam sztár. Az angyalarcú kamaszfiúkból ősz férfiak, apák, sőt nagyapák. A „csak ülök és mesélek” dokumentumfilmes alaphelyzet a korabeli felvételekkel mozgalmassá s szinte kordokumentummá lesz. Az együttes tagjai külön-külön idézik meg a múltat, egymásra izlésben, szemléletben feltűnően hasonlító lakásaikban. A riporter a filmrendező Gulyás Gyula, s ez kitűnő választás, hisz az első perctől nyomon követte kamerájával a népi kultúra reneszánszát, mindent és mindenkit ismer, ezért inkább „csak” egy szenzibilis animátor, aki néha csak egy példáullal vagy egy bólintással viszi tovább a vallomás fonalát.Mellette nem tévedhet a riportalany.
Ha nem mai tudásunkat visszavetítve kellene válaszolni a kérdésre, hogy miért jártunk táncházba a hetvenes évek közepén, annyit mondhatnék, a társaságért, kíváncsiságból, s mert bár nem tudatosan, de kimondva –kimondatlanul, ott lebegett fölötte valami a nem hivatalos kultúra rejtélyes vonzásából Azt szerencsére, csak harminc év múlva tudtuk meg Szőnyei Tamás Nyílvántartottak című könyvéből, hogy az állambiztonsági szerveket nagyon is érdekelte a mozgalom, egy- egy estén hat-hét besúgó is volt közöttünk. „Egy szabad életet valósítottunk meg a magunk számára, olyan korszakban, amikor ez nem volt evidencia” -mondja Éri Péter. Az első lemez még a pártállam idején született –Pozsgay Imre segítségével –és felmutatta a magyar etnikum kultúrájával átitatott területek egységességét, beleértve a határon túli magyarokat is. „Ez egy identitás lemez volt, arról, hogy magyarok vagyunk, s ezt az orosz megszállás sem kérdőjelezhette meg.” . S amikor már külfüldre is eljutottak, elsőként Hollandiába, behívták őket az Interkoncertbe és kioktatták: nem nyilatkozhatnak a Szabad Európának és nem hozhatnak be tiltott könyveket. De mit számított ez ahhoz képest, hogy kiderült : „ kint megbolondultak ettől a zenétől . Erre a zenére tud rezonálni egy holland vagy egy német szíve is.” Második lemezük Hollandiában készült.
A nyolcvanasévek elején két lemezük a „ Nem úgy van most, mint volt régen” és a ”Nem arról hajnallik „ a népzenei hangzás és a városi életérzés összehangolásával próbálkozott, nagy sikerrel. A kortárs zenei effektusok,a beat zene technológiájának beépítése az autentikus népzenébe egy saját, Muzsikás stílust eredményezett. A cenzúrabizottság nemigen tudott mit kezdeni velük, hisz népdalokba nehéz belekötni, ezért jelenhetett meg „Hidegen fújnak a szelek” című lemezük, amelyen a népdalokba burkoltan érezni lehetett a társadalmi elvárásoknak feszülő elégedetlenséget. Azonban az áthallásokra is érzékenyek voltak a cenzorok s az a Kodály Zoltán nyomán idézett mondat, hogy „Az idegen szép- mondta a zsidó s egy év múlva rommá lett Jeruzsálem” nem hangozhatott el színpadon. Sipos Mihály empátiájának,hosszú távra érvényes gondolkodásának, egyensúlyozásra való képességének sokat köszönhet a zenekar. Megérezte azt is a nyolcvanas évek elején, hogy eljött az ideje, hogy Sebestyén Márta szólólemezt készítsen s 1982-ben megjelent a „Dúdoltam én, Sebestyén Márta”, s elindult Márta karrierje s egyben az együttesből való kiválása is. John Boyd angol producer, aki többek között a Pink Floyd együttes menedzsere is volt, miatta jött Budapestre, de felfigyelt a Muzsikásra is. Az együttes a rendszerváltáskor elhatározta, hogy pártrendezvényen nem lépnek föl, de érezték a kihívást. Ahogy Sipos Mihály mondja:”Nem válhatunk egységes nemzetté, amíg a XX.századi traumák nincsenek kibeszélve.” A népi-urbánus ellentét ellen érvel a „Szól a kakas már..” lemezük, a magyar és zsidó kultúra egymásbaérését bizonyítva, a máramarosi népzenén keresztül. S ha Sipos Misi a magyar kultúra legjobbjainak törekvéseibe illő gondolatai per pillanat naívitásnal tűnnek is, ez a lemez kinyitotta előttük a nagyvilág kapuját. „Ez az !” –mondta John Boyd angol producer s szervezte a koncerteket a Carnegie Hall-ban, Royal Festival Hall-ban, stb. A Kossuth és a Príma Primissima díj után megkapták a Womex világzenei díjat is, első európai együttesként.
A film közel négy évtizedet fog át, úgy hogy a zenekar tagjainak életét is megismerjük, pályaképüket is s azt a magyarságot is határon innen és túl, ahol megtalálták gyökereiket. S megszólalnak legfőbb segítőik, a népzenei reneszánsz doayenjei Sebő Ferenc és Halmos Béla is. Halmos tárgyilagosan mondja: a népzenének vége, egy lezáródott zenei korszak, ahogy vége lett a reneszansz vagy a barokk zenének is, amikor megszűnt az az életforma, amely létrehozta. Ma már csak a tudatos tanítás ami meg tudja őrizni. A táncház az igazi közege, ahol funkciójában tud működni. S hallatlan eredmény, hogy már százezrek, több generáció sajátította el a táncházakban zenei anynyelvét és ők már nem vevők a gagyira, a silányságra.
Nagy élmény a film a szerteágazó, gazdag ismeretanyaggal, a bőséges zenével, tánccal, de tagadhatalan hiányossága, hogy kitér az emberi drámák elől. Amikor Éri Péter a kérdésre, hogy miért romlott meg a viszonyuk legjobb barátjával ifjú Csoóri Sándorral, azt mondja: erről nem beszélek, ha kikapcsoljátok a kamerát akkor sem, ez nem tartozik rátok – és elmorzsol egy könnyet, akkor azt gondolom ez rendben van, a bulvár és a celebek korában is van magánszféra s ezt a néző tudomásul kell vegye. De amikor kiderül, hogy úgy gondolják,- s ez tény-,hogy a Muzsikás első húsz évének meghatározó egyénisége Csoóri Sándor volt ,egy rendkívül sokoldalú, zseniális zenész s mégis , nem egészen három hónappal az együttesből való kiválása után, átveszik nélküle a Kossuth-díjat, ez tragikai vétségnek tűnik. Csoóri távozását az együttesből minden tag másként élte meg, de hogy ez már régen érlelődő döntés volt s a zene funkciójának, „mindenhatóságának” értelmezésbeli különbözősége lehetett a fő ok, az valószínű. Csoóri Sándor egyébként kamera elé állt,de később nem járult hozzá a nyilvánossághoz. Sebestyén Márta aki szintén nem konfliktusok nélkül távozott az együttesből viszont a stáb semmilyen megkeresésére nem is reagált. Pedig , Sipos Misi kvalitásérzéke és makacssága nélkül talán nem is lett volna szóló karrierje. Nem tudhatjuk. A drámák mostmár örökre ottmaradnak a muzsikások elfojtott férfikönnyei, fiatalon barázdált arcuk ráncai, s a rendkívüli átéléssel húzott keservesek mögött.
Translation - English Roots and wings (for the Hungarian Review)
We must give our children roots and wings – or so the saying goes, in the wake of Goethe. This is exactly what my generation, the children of socialism, did not receive. Roots were not important, since, instead of a patriotic upbringing, we received internationalism, and instead of wings, the ability of orientation in time and space was also taken away from us. I remember that with our very first passport, we went to the ocean, to the Italian Adriatic. We left in the morning, and by 3:00 p.m. we were bathing in the sea. I was bewildered; I thought that there was something wrong with my watch. I refused to believe that the ocean was merely an arms reach away, and the realization that it was kept a secret for all of these years almost hurt.
I was reminded of these things in the aftermath of Tóth Péter Pál’s film entitled Muzsikás történet – 35 years of the ensemble.
At first, I wondered just exactly what could be said about an orchestra for nearly five times one hour, but it soon became evident that the film was not merely about a carrier, but rather about a much more complicated procedure which was, in the words of Németh László: “culture is not merely knowledge, it is not some sort of artistic accomplishment but rather a lifestyle”.
It became evident that after nearly four decades, the extraordinary event which came about in 1972 without any prelude, which was heralded at the dance houses movement and which the Muzsikás Ensemble was also the founder and cultivator of, was highly significant. On the one hand, and truly at the last minute, it captured and illustrated a fading culture, while on the other hand, with its preservation, the identity of hundreds of thousands of Hungarians was formed or strengthened.
In the first part of the film we find out how each person became drawn into the grasp of folk music. Peter Éri and Alexander Csoóri jr. were born into the world of folk music and folkdance – and to a small extent, Márta Sebestyén as well. Contrarily, Michael Sipos and Daniel Hamar came from a classical music background and the “love” and recognition that “this is our true music”, is a result of an accidental meeting. Of course, each one had a school orchestra, where they played songs by The Rolling Stones.
Later, their fantastic travels to the landscapes of Transylvania, to the Mezőség region, to Kalotaszeg, and to the Gyimes, enabled them to collect and learn from the last generation of authentic folk musicians and folk dancers – following in the footsteps of greats like George Martin and Zoltán Kallós. It is an experience for the viewers as well, to see the respect and mutual love which tied the youth to the older musicians and which connects them even today. At present, when they themselves are also well known, they still say the names of Steve Icsán, John Zerkula, and Alex Neti, with the same awe as they would of a classical musician such as Yehudi Menuhin. There and then, in the seventies, it did not matter if a musician was of Romanian or of Gypsy decent. The only thing that was important was whether or not he played and held the acknowledgment of the community. The respect was mutual because the older musicians made example of the ten year old young boy from Budapest - Peter Éri - in front of the village members because he could dance the legényes quite well. They learned and comprehended the most important fact from the elders: that the village musicians were not amateurs. Although they did not attend a music school, they trained to be musicians from childhood, and if they are not sucessfull, they will not be called upon to play in the future. Music has a role. It has a function within the community, and the musicians fullfill a service. They must play in a way that they will be able to endure a two day long wedding celabration.
. It was fortunate that the first video cameras had already appeared, so the director could choose from many shots of the young, tradition guarding musicians. The final renaissance of folk music and folkdance excited many filmmakers, from the pioneering Gulyás brothers, who were still filming with a 16mm camera, through Csaba Bereczeki, to George Szomjas. Those constantly smiling, laughing faces, glowing glances, and intertwined hands, appeared to be solid and not ruin able. Linen shirts worn with jeans, fur jackets, Transylvanian scarves and straw hats, the trend setting haversacks, the youth’s natural behavior, their zest, their self certainty. The young girl, Martha Sebestyén, becomes a vocalist, not to mention a world star, before our very eyes. The angel faced, adolescent young lads turn into graying adults, fathers, moreover grandfathers. Due to the shots from that time period, the concept of “I sit and tell stories”, document film format becomes livelier and almost turns into a period documentation shot. . Members of the ensemble individually reflect upon the past, from their homes which are conspicuously similar not only in style but also in taste. The reporter is the director, Gyula Gulyás, and this is an excellent choice, since from the first moment, he follows the folk culture conservationists with the camera. He knows everyone and everything, and for this reason he is more a sensible animator who with an example or an agreeing nod, carries on the topic of the statement. Beside him, the interviewee can not be mistaken.
If we did not have to use our current knowledge to answer the question of why we went to the dance house at that time, we would only state that we went for the companionship, curiosity, and deliberately but subconsciously, because there in front of our very eyes, we were mysteriously drawn to the of an un-official culture. Fortunately, we only found out about that thirty years later from a book entitled “Nyilvántartottak”, written by Thomas Szőnyei, which stated that the authorities responsible for state security were very interested in the movement, and on any given night, there were at least six or seven informants among us. “We were able to implement a free lifestyle for ourselves at a time when this was not the norm” says Peter Éri. The first record was born at the time of the party state – with the help of Imre Pozsay – and illustrated the unity of the ethnic Hungarian Folk culture saturated areas, including that of those Hungarians living beyond its borders. “This was an identity record stating that we are Hungarians, and even the Russian occupation can not question that fact”. And when they were able to travel farther, initially to Holland, they were summoned to the Interconcert office, where they were instructed not to make any sort of statement to Radio Free Europe, and not bring in forbidden books. But all this did not matter when it became evident that: “everyone went crazy for this type of music and that this sound made Dutch and even German hearts throb.” Their second album was made in Holland.
The beginning of the 80s brought two new albums, („ Nem úgy van most, mint volt régen” It is not like it used to be) and (”Nem arról hajnallik „The prisoner’s song) which attempted to harmonize the folk music sound with the city feeling, and with great success I might add. The combination of contemporary musical effects and beat music technology added to authentic folk music resulted in an individual and unique Muzsikás style. The censorship committee did not know what to make of them since it was difficult find fault in folk music; and this reason that their new album entitled („Hidegen fújnak a szelek” Cold winds are blowing) could appear, which illustrated the strained discontent of society’s expectations within the guise of folk music. However, the censors were sensitive to the inferences. For example the Zoltán Kodály quoted sentence “The stranger is pretty – said the Jew and within one year Jerusalem crumbled” – could not be spoken on stage. The orchestra can be grateful to Mihály Sipos for his empathy, foresight, and for his balancing abilities. He also felt in the first part of the 80s, that the time had come for Martha Sebestyén to release a solo album and in 1982 their appeared a new record entitled („Dúdoltam én, Sebestyén Márta” I am humming, Martha Sebestyén) and thus began her solo career, as well as her departure from the ensemble. British producer John Boyd, who was among other things, the personal manager of Pink Floyd, came to Budapest specifically because of her, but he took note of the Muzsikás Ensemble as well. During the change in government, it was determined that they would not appear at party functions, however, they felt the challenge. As Mihály Sipos puts it, “We can not become a united nation until the 20th century traumas are discussed.” Our record entitled “Szól a kakas már...” argues against social urbanization showing the lap of the Hungarian and Hebrew cultures through folk music from Máramaros. And if the ever striving thoughts of Misi Sipos, Hungarian culture’s finest, seem momentarily somewhat naïve, then this record opened the gates of the greater world in front of them. “This is it!” said John Boyd, the British producer, and proceeded to organize concerts in Carnegie Hall, The Royal Festival Hall, etc. After receiving the Kossuth and Prima Primissima awards, they were among the first European ensembles to be given the Womex world music award.
The film encompasses nearly four decades in such a way that we are familiarized with the lives of the individual members, their careers, and that Hungariansm were they found their roots, within and across all borders. We also hear from their main helpers and mentors, the main supporters of the folk music renaissance, Frank Sebő and Bill Halmos. As Halmos objectively puts it: we have reached the end of folk music in the same way as that of renaissance and baroque music, when that particular lifestyle which caused its existence ended. In this day and age, the only thing that can preserve it is conscious instruction. The dance houses are the only true medium where it is able to function in its true form. And it is a major accomplishment that hundreds of thousands and several generations have learned the musical basics in the dance houses and as a result, they are no longer buyers for the crappy and the cheap.
The film offers a great experience in its diverse and rich research material, its abundant music, and with the dancing, however it is an undeniable fault that it avoids the individual, human dramas. When asked why the relationship with his best friend, Alexander Csoóri jr. deteriorated, Peter Éri simply answered, “I will not discuss this, even if you turn off the camera, this does not concern you” as he held back the tears from his eyes, and I thought that this was alright. There is a personal sphere even in the age of tabloids and celebrities, and the viewer must accept this fact. However, it appears tragic when it becomes evident – and this is the truth – that in the first twenty years of the Muzsikás Ensemble’s existence, Alexander Csoóri jr., a versatile and talented musician, was a determining figure; nevertheless, almost three months after his departure from the Ensemble, they accept the Kossuth award without him. This appears to be tragic. Each and every member of the ensemble reacted differently to Csoóri’s departure, but this however was a stewing decision, and the main reason for the departure of the omnipotent of musical theories must have been irreconcilable differences. Csoóri stood in front of the camera but later, he did not wish to comment in public. Martha Sebestyén, whose departure from the ensemble was also not without conflict, did not react to inquires made by the staff, when, if not for the sense of quality and stubbornness of Misi Sipos, she perhaps would not have had a solo career. Who knows? The dramas will forever remain in the background, noticeable only in the held back tears of the musicians, the striated facial wrinkles, and the unusual experienced bitterness.
