Abarca desde vocabulario del patrimonio literario e histórico, hasta expresiones de uso moderno, coloquial y vulgar, voces de nuevo cuño o procedentes de jergas, y barbarismos de los más diversos orígenes, cuya inclusión no supone legitimación alguna. También incluye el rico vocabulario popular que la mayoría de los diccionarios elude, muchos gentilicios irregulares y nombres botánicos y zoológicos. La inclusión de nombres comerciales o marcas registradas no prejuzga su condición jurídica.
