A year or two ago I started using a software tool that checks consistency in texts. I mainly use it for revising/correcting academic papers written by non-native speakers, but sometimes I use it on my own translations as well. I use MT a bit, but judiciously rather than slavishly or across the board.
What's going on with this automated obsession? I don’t want to automate anything I do; I want to put my brain to good use…
I automatically reject all PEMT requests.

It's unclear to me what is meant by "automated work processes". My spell checker is automated, does that count? I use BaacS to keep track of orders, but that's a database, not what I would call automated. I use a CAT tool, which automatically calls up matching segments from the TM. But I manually type in the translations, so I guess that's not automatic either. | | | Mario Freitas Brazil Local time: 08:30 Member (2014) English to Portuguese + ...
Using a CAT is a considerable automation step, in case people are not considering that. In fact, the CAT automates several functions, not only one. Other than that, I also automate as much as I can my invoicing, statistics, and other admin/control processes, but I'm far from the level of automation I desire. I just don't have time to program it, and I will not buy third-party software for that purpose. One type of automation that will never, ever be part of my routine is using MTs to... I only use MTs for languages I don't speak. Period. ▲ Collapse | | | Jan Truper Germany Local time: 12:30 Member (2016) English to German

See more Besides using CAT tools / MT / dictation software where I see fit, I have automated certain menial processes (by using input devices with several extra buttons and this software: https://www.orderedbytes.com/controllermate/). For example, I can select text and then hit a specific button on my keyboard to automatically and swiftly Copy text -> Switch to browser app in a separate window -> Click on a dictionary tab -> Click in search field -> Paste text -> Hit Enter -> Return mouse cursor to original position. I have several such automated work processes assigned to various extra buttons/keys. ▲ Collapse | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: Have you automated any of your work processes in recent years?
