Not that I recall Nov 6, 2018

That wouldn't be a nice thing to do, would it? Also a rather dumb thing to do.

In memoriam
Some did, however never naming names Nov 6, 2018

They just wanted to make sure that hiring me wouldn't lead them to fall into the same trap again.

Usual complaints:
- late delivery
- no communication / unresponsiveness
- poor quality (mistranslations, typos, crooked formatting, awful video subtitling)

Not exactly "complained" (I'm finding it hard to imagine such a situation), but I've been asked to redo poor translations a couple times or take some rush work because the initial translator has vanished...

The client didn't name the translator... Nov 6, 2018

however, I got paid quite a bit to fix the translation.
I was also assured that they would notify me in advance so that I could schedule my time to accommodate their large projects so that this would never happen again.

Yes, three times Nov 6, 2018

In three occasions, I suggested colleagues, upon the client's request, and these colleagues unfortunately did a lousy job. I crossed their names off my list and I'll never indicate them again, of course. In two of the three cases, I had to work very late, till morning rise, to fix their incompetence.

However, other than my own indications, it has never happened, and it would be quite unethical for a client to complain about another colleague.

On the other hand, I have complained many times about other translators or (above all) incompetent revisers. I don't sonsider it unethical if it affects my job or if the client asks me for my opinion.

I’ve just remembered that some two weeks ago one of my long-standing customers asked me to proofread a document translated by another freelancer because the client complained it contained a few mistakes. It wasn’t as bad as the client thought and I suspect it was more a case of the client adding together a number of segments… Anyway, I charged my usual editing rate.
