Money is no object in my case...
A couple of years ago, I would have said yes, but things have changed. I don't find it fun anymore. | | | Nigel Greenwood (X) Spain Local time: 06:44 Spanish to English + ...
Mainly, my business is interpreting and I love it. Written translation is also very nice, and I will continue doing both until I no longer can physically do so. Regards to all, Nigel.

I would instead go into programming or video editing which are other passions of mine.

Yes, but if money were no object I would like to do more art translations and limit the number of days per year on which I am available to clients so that I could spend more time travelling and return to University part time to continue learning.

I translate, therefore I am. (Ok, I know the "cogito" may not be philosophically sound, but as with many things nowadays, it sounds good, which is often enough for me).
... only for commercial rates, or completely for free for NGOs that cannot afford anything but volunteer work. I would not want to spoil the market and the livelihood of fellow translators, just because money would not be important to me personally.
I already do, but I'd do it more since RSI would be less of an issue. | | | Helena Koželj Slovenia Local time: 06:44 English to Slovenian + ... A big like from me! | May 7, 2018 |

I go on because 1) what else would I do? and 2) where I live, I mustn't admit I am rich, so I must go on pretending to make my living... But as others suggested, I became rather picky as to clients, subjects, and language pairs. | | | Silvia Schulz Netherlands Local time: 06:44 English to German + ...
I would continue to a certain extend, but cut out all boring, tedious, and poorly paid jobs and try to work on large, interesting projects only, like a book, for a few months per year.
Even if money isn't an issue I would still do it because I would be unable to stop. As it has already been said "I translate, therefore I am" and yes, it "is a sport for the mind". The local Ministry of Culture said I can, and everyone I know have said that I MUST!. I am a lawyer at the base, and secondly a translator/interpreter in the legalese domain, but I still highly enjoy being in contact with EN irrespective of the domain. Much obliged, A.T. | | | Pages in topic: [1 2] > | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: If money were no object, would you still translate for fun?
