Cependant, compte tenu de la dynamique polémique de tout champ intellectuel, cette "boucle" est vite devenue une opposition. L'axe Nature/Culture est l'un des schèmes structurant de la pensée sur le féminin. Ce champ réflexif est toujours en tension entre tenants du "constructivisme" social (pensée du "genre" socialement construit, oppressif, à dépasser par l'universalisme) et partisans du "différentialisme" ou de "l'essentialisme" (existence d'une spécificité irréductible et innée, naturelle, des sexes). […]
A partir d'une synthèse de travaux psychanalytiques, Camille Froidevaux-Metterie souligne que " le maternage féminin provoque des asymétries dans les expériences relationnelles des filles et des garçons. En grandissant, les premières en viennent à se définir et à s’éprouver comme étant toujours reliées aux autres, quand les seconds se vivent comme foncièrement séparés et distincts. La définition de soi d’une fille se caractérise ainsi par la possession d’une «base empathique» (a basis for empathy) qui la situe dans une relation au monde et aux autres enracinée dans le sentiment de la continuité (...) à rebours du soi-masculin caractérisé par le déni de la relation et l’affirmation individuelle les femmes expérimentent «le sens d’un soi-en-relation» (a sense of self-in-relation). Elles seraient dotées d’une capacité intuitive de connexion aux autres et d’une disposition à l’empathie directement antagonique à la posture individualiste et autonome propre aux hommes. Le sentiment de soi féminin basique est relié au monde, le sentiment de soi masculin basique est un sentiment de séparation. (…) La personnalité masculine en vient à se définir davantage dans les termes du déni de la relation et de la connexion (et du déni de la féminité)".
Translation - English THE PERSPECTIVE OF THE FEMININE
The feminine emerges from a circular relationship between Nature and Culture. While one can argue that social organization (Culture) arises “naturally,” one can also argue that the concept of Nature is itself a cultural construct.
However, considering the vigorous discourse coming out of intellectual arenas, this “loop” has quickly transformed into an opposition. The Nature/Culture dichotomy is one of the constructs giving structure to thinking about the feminine. This reflexive field is in constant tension. Those partial to social “constructivism” (in which “gender” is socially constructed, oppressive, and to be transcended through universalism) oppose those aligned with “differentialism” or “essentialism” (the existence of an irreducible, natural and innate uniqueness for each of the sexes).
Based on a combination of psychoanalytic studies, Camille Froidevaux-Metterie stresses that “mothering causes asymmetries in relational experiences between girls and boys. The former grow to define and experience themselves as being continually connected to others, while the latter live as if they are fundamentally separate and distinct. A girl’s sense of self comes to be built on a basis of empathy that situates her in a relationship with the world and with others, a relationship that is rooted in a sense of continuity (…) In sharp contrast to the masculine self, which is characterized by the denial of relationships and the affirmation of the individual, women experience “a sense of self-in-relation.” Girls are endowed with an intuitive capacity to connect to others and a disposition for empathy in direct opposition to the individualistic and autonomous attitude special to men. The basic sense of feminine self is a sense of connection to the world, the basic sense of masculine self is a sense of separation. (…) Masculine personalities come to define themselves in terms of denial of relationship and connection (and denial of the feminine).
