OCTA To Host Open Houses On Garden Grove Freeway Improvement Project
ORANGE – The public is invited to attend community open houses that will provide a
project overview and other important information about the Garden Grove Freeway
(SR-22) improvement project, which will begin construction on Wednesday (Sept. 22).
The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) is hosting five open houses to kick
off its public awareness campaign and communicate with the general public about its
$490 million project, which will help relieve congestion on the 12-mile freeway.
The open houses will familiarize the public with the innovative construction method
called “design-build” being used on the project. It will also allow the public to ask
questions, learn about the many enhancements planned for the corridor and sign up to
receive updated information regarding detours and traffic management.
Open houses are scheduled on the following dates:
6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 23

Principal’s Message
Oak Ridge High School is a unique and diverse school that serves approximately 2,350 students. Oak Ridge High School offers a complete compliment of advanced placement, college preparatory, vocational and fine arts classes. Our goal is, in partnership with parents and students, to meet every student’s level of academic need; failure is no longer an option.
Oak Ridge High School (ORHS) is a whole Title I program school. We receive funding that allows us to provide all of the necessary equipment and supplies to each classroom. We are also participating in a program (RCAT ) that has provided leadership training and school improvement models. In addition we participate in CLAS, designed to present a cultural and linguistically sensitive classroom and to improve the educational environment for our African-American students. There is a participation team at PHS involved with West Ed and SLI to adopt and improve schoolwide
teaching and learning strategies.
Oak Ridge High School is no longer eligible for II/USP funding.

Positive Learning Environment
Oak Ridge High School offers a wide array of extracurricular activities for its students. We support a complete schedule of athletic teams for both male and female athletes. We are a member school of the North Coast Section. We have over 30 different clubs on campus that provide students opportunities to involve themselves in the culture and climate of the school.
An active leadership program at PHS meets daily to plan events and provide activities that help promote a positive school spirit and a sense of pride.
Oak Ridge High School employs a full-time Community Resource Officer on campus. Our CRO helps maintain a safe environment on campus. We have five full-time administrators that handle the daily operations of the high school. A sixth, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., administrator is planned for the 2005-2006 school year. We are also one of the few remaining schools in the area that provide full counseling services to our students.
Oak Ridge High School (PHS) students are provided AIDS, STD, pregnancy prevention, nutritional guidelines, life skills, and steriod education through their health and physical education classes.

A new economic engine for RICHMOND, NORTH RICHMOND AND PARCHESTER VILLAGE
An independent study for the City of Richmond found that an Indian casino would provide
many benefits for local citizens:
_ $366 million annually in new money for the local economy
_ 4,500 new jobs for local people
_ $123 million annually in salaries
_ $13 million annually in new money for local merchants
In addition, the Scotts Valley Band of Pomo Indians will provide funding for road improvements, public safety and environmental protection. The tribe will also provide job training, hire local people and buy from local merchants.
Studies show that Indian casinos can be good neighbors. A Harvard University study found that crime and welfare actually went down in communities with Indian casinos.
The Scotts Valley “Sugar Bowl Casino” will have casino games, great restaurants and an
entertainment center featuring top performers.
