Working across the board: East Sri Lanka
The shock of the tsunami and its effects on infrastructure, agricultural land, livestock, properties and the sheer loss of life has left a wake of trauma. This project seeks to support and serve over 220,000 families along the East coast in a systematic manner to safeguard against future mental depression and social issues.
The project focuses on the relief gap provisions and rehabilitation activities, supporting basic needs, psychosocial care, capacity building, livelihood, governance and coordination activities to meet the needs of affected families in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka.
The project gives priority to the disaster affected people with special emphasis on widows, women, school children, orphans, elders, people with disabilities, large families and families affected by the war.
Community Care Workers provide psychosocial care, data collection, needs assessment, facilitating, implementing work plans, capacity building for individuals and community based organisations, coordination of activities, leadership skills and time management.
The project encourages an integrated response for addressing people’s needs from psychosocial care to immediate and long-term needs restructuring. Programme intervention is carried out through existing committees, co-existence committees, youth committees and women’s self-help groups without any discrimination of caste, creed, religion or ethnicity.
XXXXX’s project partners are the ‘ZZZZZ’ and the project has been running since December 2004
Family well-being: Tangalle
The government decided to halt and prohibit new constructions within 100 metres area from the seashore. This means that the fishing communities in areas like Tangalle in Southern Sri Lanka have lost their homes and their livelihoods.
This project is working with over 400 families to provide:
Immediate assistance to the most vulnerable and marginalised
Tents, kitchen equipment, mosquito nets and coils, sanitary towels, shoes for small children, uniforms and text books for children, temporary toilets in camps and food
School resources, seminars and tutorials, especially for those students about to sit their junior and senior level examinations
A supplementary allowance for widows
Carrying out a psycho-social care programme
Formulating and implementing a mid term and a long term relief and rehabilitation programme to restore the livelihoods of affected families
Improving basic living standards
Ensuring that all affected school children return to school.

Desde hace mucho tiempo, las mujeres de Sri Lanka están sometidas a la injusticia social y a los conflictos étnicos. Los efectos del tsunami han multiplicado los conflictos y la disparidad de género, por lo que la actual vulnerabilidad de las mujeres de la comunidad ante los abusos es aún mayor.
La finalidad de este proyecto es empoderar a la mujer y combatir su discriminación mediante las actividades siguientes:

El impacto del tsunami y sus efectos sobre infraestructuras, tierras de cultivo, ganado y propiedades inmuebles, así como la pérdida de vidas en sí, han dejado un rastro traumático. Este proyecto busca apoyar y servir de manera sistemática a más de 220.000 familias a lo largo de la costa oriental, para salvaguardarlas contra futuras depresiones psicológicas y problemas sociales.
Para atender las necesidades de las familias afectadas en la Provincia Oriental de Sri Lanka, el proyecto se centra en actividades que salven la brecha existente en la provisión de acción humanitaria y de rehabilitación, mediante el apoyo a actividades orientadas a las necesidades básicas, la atención psicosocial, el desarrollo de la capacitación y de los medios de vida, el buen gobierno y la coordinación.
El proyecto da prioridad a las personas afectadas por el desastre, con especial atención a viudas, mujeres, infancia en edad escolar, niñas y niños huérfanos, mayores y personas con discapacidades, así como a las familias numerosas y las afectadas por la guerra.
El personal de atención comunitaria trabaja en atención psicosocial, recolección de datos, evaluación de necesidades, facilitación, implementación de planes de trabajo, desarrollo de la capacitación individual y de las organizaciones comunitarias, coordinación de actividades, habilidades de liderazgo y gestión del tiempo.
Para hacer frente a las necesidades de las personas, el proyecto fomenta una respuesta integral, que va desde la atención psicosocial hasta la reestructuración de las necesidades tanto inmediatas como las del largo plazo. Bienestar familiar: Tangalle

I am a huge sports fan (hobbies include scuba-diving, hiking, football and other sports) and have considerable bilingual knowledge on a wide range of sports, sports jargon and nuances.
