Bio

Hi, my name is Aino. The first 16 years of my life I lived in a small town called Lievestuore in Central Finland. I have always loved languages and became interested in translation around the age of 12. Besides English, Swedish and my mother tongue Finnish, in senior high I started studying French and Spanish. After graduation I got admitted to Turku University to study the translation of the French language, but left abroad to spend a year in Strasbourg, France, before beginning my translation oriented studies.

As it happened, I fell in love with France and decided to stay. I found a suitable translation school in Lyon and got admitted to ESTRI to study Translation and International Relations. Besides translation, world history, culture, management skills and many other interesting subjects, I was able to study English, French and Spanish and even a new language of my choosing. I chose Russian.

Some students at my school had started an online newspaper called Le Journal International, and I ended up translating some news articles from Spanish or French to English for this newspaper. This turned out to be my first translation job, and as I started offering my translation services more and more widely, I was already getting paid for doing what I love in 2014.

The second semester of my translation studies consisted of work in an English-speaking country of our choosing, and I spent 6 months waitressing in Ennis, Ireland. The third and last year of the Bachelor's Degree, we got to do a three-month internship in France or abroad. I worked as a development assistant in Barcelona, and since I wanted to continue my studies in Spain, I moved straight from Barcelona to Sevilla and received a Master's Degree in Translation and Interculturality from the University of Sevilla. After receiving my degree, I moved back to France in 2017.

I have been working as a professional translator full-time ever since. Each year I live about 6 months in Finland, 6 months in France. Currently my work consists mostly of subtitling, but I do occasionally translate a technical manual or a website for an online store. I love my job and will keep translating for the foreseeable future.
