Report from  Ana Gioino Blythman
On an unusually drizzly day for Melbourne (we are suffering with a serious drought), 10 of us met at the Observatory Cafe, set in the heart of our beautiful Botanical Gardens. I am a new member, and for me, it was very special to meet Ana, the Freire family (Daniel, Mecia and Sofia), Eleonor, Gareth and Paula, and their baby, Lewis. Although the cafe was bustling and busy, Ana had chosen a quiet corner for us to meet, over capuccinos, macchiatos, friands and other delicacies. Lewis was the centre of attention, insisting on eating his delicious looking brunch with his fingers!
The 30th September happened to be the Feast of St. Jerome, the patron saint of translators, which we thought was very appropriate. The main point of professional discussion evolved around the NAATI proposal to revalidate - the general consensus was that this was a duplication - as contributions were already being made to AUSIT. It was decided that further discussion would take place at the Annual General Meeting which was to be held in a week's time.
Unfortunately, I had to leave for another appointment, but the others enjoyed a leisurely walk amongst the exquisitely tranquil surroundings of the gardens at the conclusion of the meeting.
