Good morning everyone,
I have a question.
I am writing my master's thesis and I got into the trouble. I have a section named 'Translation methods' and I am not sure what should I describe there. There should be described methods created by Newmark (8 of them, including: word-by-word, faithful, semantic etc..)?
I am not sure because I know that there are also 'strategies' offered by Nida, but I think that there is difference between strategies and methods and I should put, describe in this section methods offered by Newmark.
Thank you for help.
Newmark and Nida are old news. Their contributions were important, but the field of Translation Studies has moved on for decades. Hasn't your thesis adviser suggested routes of inquiry, such as what authors and books to read on translation methods and strategies? Because there are many names, theories and models. You have to do the heavy lifting of reading and researching, but your adviser needs to be there to guide you.
